ok so whos seen this , this is scarey stuff with possibly large follow on ramifacitions.
Belgium have imposed a ban on kiting in wind above 6Bft (about 25knts) and also set a exclusion zone of 200m from the shore , as a no kite area aswell.
This follows a fatal accident last summer , in Belguim , where a beginner was killed after the wind increased drasticly in a sort period of time from 15-20knts up over 25-30.
There is of coarse a knee jerk reaction from some enpassioned Belgain kiters who have started a Facebook petition ..which as you can imagine is not overly well thought out and includes statements like "This is Bull****". Heres a link to the sticky on Kiteforum.com and a threed discussing the new law :

Thankfully the Belgians and Dutch have a healthy disrespect for the millions of extraneous rules they are saddled with. I suspect it will end up being discretionary - only d*ckheads will get fined and the authorities have their arses covered.
It gets better :
This law takes into consideration most people are operating with 5 pints of Stella in their system
Plus Europeans don't have Australian police to worry about ![]()
Yes, and they just announced a tag system that every kiter will need to have before they are allowed to go on the water too. This system has been around in many countries for years now. The same I am trying to implement here. My town planner and lawyer are on it.
For those who do not agree with over regulation and paternalism in a government:

&x22s;New Law in Belgium: KITESURFING FORBIDDEN IN MORE THAN 6bft.
This is a sad day for kitesurfing in Belgium, and kitesurfing around the world. FREEDOM IS THE MAGIC WORD... WE DO NOT &x28;!!!&x29; EXEPT STUPID RULES LIKE THESE.
1. People with NO knowledge deciding about our sport
2. This rule will NOT help to for more safety
3. More restricted kite zones will result in MORE crowded beached and MORE ACCIDENTS.
KITEBOARDERS, PLEASE GIVE A SIGN AND SPREAD THIS GROUP TO OTHER KITEBOARDING PARTICIPANTS !!
==> I have chosen this sport for his feeling of FREEDOM. This new law is BULL**** !!&x22s;
Stupid nanny state rules.
If someone drowns in the surf do they ban swimming at the beach in waves greater than 0.75m???
Humans will be humans and we do need some level of law to keep it all under control, but this type of rule is total nanny-state where the plot has been completely lost.
I say keep the baseline laws in place, and let natural selection make our species stronger! ![]()
I have said it before and will say it again ........licence or regulate our own sport or the GOv will do it for us..........
AND WE WONT LIKE THE CONDITIONS THEY PLACE ON US. and just watch the wingers then.
This will get red thumbed by the way..... i understand the reasons why and I felt the same way a long time ago .....but given the popularity and growth of the sport it needs to happen.....
If they ban kiting we'd be outlaws and criminals. Then kiting would no longer be considered the sport of princesses.
We'd all be cool...
Bring it on.
If we wear a black wetsuit and flouro boardshorts over the top then they will know just what we are.
I'm confused, how does a kite have the strength to hold together when it's made entirely from chocolate?
Has anybody found any actual official mention of it - I've found petitions, facebooks, twitters, forum topics, etc .. but no actual public statement anywhere on the interweb as yet?
I did find that [url="www.belgium.be/en/news/2011/news_cnn_says_belgians_are_world_s_11th_coolest_nationality.jsp?referer=tcm:115-115883-64
