Hi all,
I remember reading an article a while back that gave a good overview of the techniques used in different wind directions - I think it was written by Ben Wilson.
Now I've actually started out on my shortboard it would like to re-read it, but can't find it. Anyone know what I'm talking about and where it is? Or have any opinions of their own?
Mostly I ride in cross on, and am finding it quite difficult. The kite wants to go over the back of the wave, and then when I turn it back, It wants to pull me way out the front of the wave. grrrrhhhh. Is quite frustrating. Maybe straps would help?? Never tried, but worth a shot maybe....
Your kite might be to big...or it pulls to hard to keep an edge..or you are flying out on the edge of the wind window...or all of the above. Cross on is probably the easiest coz its blowing more in the direction of travel on a wave.
Thanks, had a read and I'll try it next time there is wind (prob in about a month in Sydney..)
Andre - I am having the same problem when it is super light also, so I don't think it is the size of my kite, but my technique. Thinking about it, maybe I am trying to go the wrong way.
If the wind direction is NE for example, then I am trying to catch the waves heading South (i.e. the same general direction of the wind). Maybe catching the left handers would be the way to go?
Some kites fly in wider arcs or you need to pull on the focka with authority...What kites are you riding?
Downlooping the kite can work to as it doesnt fly from one side to another. Its quiker and more direct but this might be something to practise after u solve the first prob. I have a copy of BW Smack cost me $50 u can have it for $25...its a good vid for where u are at..it does lack some advanced stuff tho.
Some crew are park n ride style some fly their kites more, then you have boards size vs kite size, wat size baord you riding?
Cheers Andre,
A mate said he would lend his Smack DVD to me. If it's that good that I want a copy to own for my self also, I'll give you a hoot.
I ride an 11m SS Rev2, and an 8meter Rebel 2010 depending on strength (usually between 14-25 knots). Surfboard I ride at the moment is a Webber 6'1 3'3/16 and 2 1'4 I think.
I may need a smaller kite I'm thinking. I really like the Rebel, but it has a **** load of grunt, and possibly the 8 meter is too big for 20 knots or so...
