Going to fiji for family holiday, staying at the Shangrila Fijian on the Coral Coast. Wondering if anyone knows if you can kitesurf out front of the resort. Going mid November would also like to know if there is wind then.

Hey Mark - Shangrila is a nice resort - stayed with the family there 2 years ago in September - and got trade winds every day. You can only kite on high tide in the lagoon at the front of the hotel before the rocks start to appear and the launching zone is very small. There are waves out the back but I didnt have the kahoonas to go out there!

Sigatoka is a short taxi ride from the hotel too and cheap also.

great resort and nice area to explore

thanks for the reply lance. fairly new to kiting only about 6 months so still eat it quite a bit. should start to get a few more sessions under my belt before i leave as its getting close to the season over here. So tight launching sites and exposed coral sounds a bit daunting, be allright if theres others there to help launch and land. Whats the beach and coral situation at sigatoka like and were there others kiting as well. Also do you think there will be enough wind in november

Was there with the missus in Sept last year, afternoon breezes but pretty light on (15kts).

As mentioned, it's pretty shallow and sharp and you'd want someone to launch you, or your gear will get shredded. The tide starts to whip through as well. If you were keen you could walk across the sandbar and down the beach 100m on the mainland and you'd be good to kite off there, mostly sandy and a bit more space.

I took one of the catamarans out to the reef and there is a pretty magic right out there, but a little intense for kiting unless you're committed. The staff get a little pissy if you take the canoes out in the surf as well.
