their is a sailing club there, I saw it on tv a few weeks back. They even have regattas when there is water in the lake. 2011 was the first since the 70's !

Saw something in the paper a few months ago that sailors were in trouble for failing to obtain permission from the traditional owners of the land.

Surely the rainbow serpent kited?

Permission is not obtainable ..
at this stage the traditional owners do not allow sailing .. even the club has trouble.
A great example how political correctness and native title has gone wrong.
I researched this some time back and there is no way as far as I know that you legally can do this unfortunately. Would be a real experience ..

It's there an actual law that specifically says you can not sail/kite/go onto lake Eyre in a canoe boat etc? If so why? I agree this is insane if true and makes me hate the way our country is run.
Tolerance to all at the expense of everyone! If we keep this up for much longer there will not be an Australia as we know it for our kids.

I was keen to try Lake EYRE at Christmas. But a 60k very bad 4wd road to no water in sight put it off.
Was going to plead ignorance if caught.
2 days before had a quick try at Lake Cada????????????????? on the Coober Pedy- William creek road. water and wind but the air temp killed the wind power so considering the Black slime and heat I would put it down in the 'done that' basket, but not to be done again.

the yacht club is at Marree which is a few Hundred K from lake Eyre and maybe 100k from the bottom of little Lake Eyre.
we had a meal at the Marree hotel and the publican was saying he spent Christmas day water sking on a creek that entered Lake Eyre. belonged to one of the locals station owners. Only a 400k drive to go Skiing.

Tree? At lake eyre? I went there as a kid (1982) and there were no trees. When I say no trees I mean not one from horizon to horizon and it's a big horizon out there. I admit it was lake eyre south (little lake eyre) but it was full and big enough that you could not see the other side. We paddled a canoe in it without problems from the locals but back then they probably did not have native title yet. Would love to see it again. Even as a ten year old it's burnt in my memory as an utterly desolate, beautifull place.
