Noticed a long, narrow, yellow conical cone off Leighton this morning from the train, right off the kite set up area, maybe 200m off the beach.
There is also a string of spherical yellow markers running North towards Dutch Inn at about 2-300m intervals.

What are they all about and do they mean anything for Leighton Kiters?

Happy Christmas.

good news and bad news....they are actually tracking devices for sharks..

good news - nothing to do with kiting..

apparently they are tagging the whites etc and are using these devices to get an indication of where and when they are swimming....they are set right down the metro coast.

If you kite close enough you will see the fisheries 'shark research' on the side...

just don't fall in...ha ha!

Ben

I got up close & personal with these markers last season. They are markers for the boundary of a South Cottesloe marine park/fishing exemption zone or something like that…have also heard that Dept of Fisheries has put in some acoustic devices that record tagged whities as being in the area but not sure if these markers are those – happy to be corrected on that one??
