Thumbs Up

Someone with a small blue-black kite put it through repeated power swoops onshore and close to walkers and runners about 5.30pm near the Leighton footbridge last night (Monday). Kite hit the hard sand near the water's edge at FULL POWER several times as the kiter got dragged, upright, through the sand, heels dug in. He wasn't 'out of control', most of the time - apart from the 'Crackin' crashes, Grommit' - but surely thinking about non-kiters' safety should have come first in his mind? I was going to say something but at that exact moment the kite hit the deck and ripped all along its righthand outer spar. Oh dear. How sad. Nevermind.
Two weeks before two guys rigged up at the southern end of Port Beach, 150m from the containers, and wondered why they couldn't get a 'downwinder' because of the rotations off the port buildings. One came ashore, rather messily, infront of the Port Beach Cafe and among swimmers. I told them both the proper area was by the bridge and, both good natured but seemingly ill informed blokes, they seemed generally surprised and had never heard it was the place to go.
Lesson 1: If area still contains joe public think of them first ALWAYS.
Lesson 2: If a learner/intermediate and there's no other kiters in your area on a good day it's CERTAIN that area is s.h.i.t.e for you.
