I know kite (size) advice gets asked a lot on here, but I'm just asking this to see if anyone else has gone down this path.
I'm 65kgs and currently have a 9m & 6m for Perth conditions. Very happy with both and will do me for most conditions.
However I was considering getting a 12m too, just for those days when its 10 to 14 knts.
I've never been out when its that light and was wondering if any smaller riders get out then and if its worth it.
I know in Perth (summer anyway) those days are few and far between but was wondering if anyone has done the same or is it a waste of time and money?
Cheers.
PS: Not lookin for advice on which kite to get, just whether its worth getting one at all.
Thanks for any feedback.
ive got out on my 11m 3-4 times in the last yr through summer and winter and i way 70kg so prob not worth it.... but with all this crazy weather we been gettin who knows wat this summer is going to bring!!!
When the wind is that light you always taking the risk that in the middle of your session wind dies and then you have to swim back.
What I did is I've gone one step forward and I learned Paragliding and 10-15 knots is the perfect wind condition for that.
This one is from two weeks ago
hey idiot im thinking of geting into paragliding iv been flying trikes for years how much does it cost to learn and how long to you solo
Hehe - I don't touch my 9m until it's ~25 knots... (85 kg). I wouldn't get a new kite but there are plenty of cheaper 1-2 season old 12m kites going pretty cheap. My biggest is a 16m and I love being out fully powered in 15 knots when everyone else is schlogging. I would have been out this morning but for other commitments...
(If you don't like kiting on the river I wouldn't bother)
Bought a 12m for the same reason, but more often than not the light seabreeze (under 15 knots) is pretty variable (ranging from enough for a few runs to barely being able to keep the kite in the sky). It is, however, far preferable than sitting on the beach waiting for the wind to build.
