i snapped off another fin on Sunday caught on low tide sandbar, so yesterday had a go finless on my surfboard.
like kiting on an oil slick. Super slidey but heaps of fun, and could come into the sand bar zones without worrying about cranking the sb onto a serious rail to save the fins.
transition from heel side coming in to toe side heading out from the beach was slippery but got it down. Nice big slidey turns. Slide, grab an edge, slide, grab an edge. Probably not the best if you got a dodgy knee.
Really helps nail your edge work, getting your heels/weight set right. Also tests your balance- the board slips out from underneath and you gotta correct pretty quickly
The wind was steady and waves small- perfect conditions. If it was gusty and crankin i would've jsut been sliding down the beach
thouhgt i saw another guy down the beach doing the same. So i'm guessing there's a bunch of others going finless. Any tips?
I cant imagine you would get much grip or drive on any sort of wave face without fins.... unless it is super fat or just mushy
