Texas kite masacre? ![]()
Bloody good effort if they stitched each panel and strut together. Might go a tad ruff tho?
I like making stuff, but some blokes have just got way too much time on their hands.
A for effort, but makes $2000 for a kite look cheap.
No bridle and no 5th line 2004 style c-kite which looks to be about a 16sqm. Make sure you don't go out in more than 15knots.
You'd also have to bring out the old swim towards the kite to flip it on its back and then manouver it round to the edge of the window trick for re-launch.
And the sand on the folded wingtip beach self launch.
Its actually not that hard, i downloaded... Urm i mean bought........ Some software that let you do it. You have a 3d model of the kite, let you adjust everything you could want. How many struts, aspect ratio, shape, size, wing tips, how many lines n everything else including bridal's.
you hit print and it works out all the panels for you and prints them out as a template, evan works out the bridal and prints diagrams. you just need a printer big anough. easy to find a place. Any place that prints 'plan prints'
I was gona make a 3 meter foil, just for fun... not got around to it yet..
Awesome effort!
Making kites is no where as easy as you think.
And yes they are sold too cheap for the effort that goes into it.
I just spent a week at our kite factory in China - I shot a heap of video of all the different stages - Each kite takes about 3 full days of work and when you see that is involved - and how labour intensive it is - you realise its a hellofalottawork!!!!
Ill post the edited footage at some stage of how the kites are made - it is really interesting .
Cheers
Bruce
a guy in Townsville used to make his own out of those blue tarps from superheap and ply boards.
Uses Flysurfers now but

Lucky those little Chinese ladies only get 50c an hour!
Depends how you design your kite to how hard + time to make. We have provided designs for make your own kite classes and found out that making a 20+meter kite is 1000 times harder than making a 7m kite..
Most kites have 20 panels on the canopy, + 20 on the leading edge, when you add paneling patterns this can take the number of panels up to 40 or 50 panels, then sew them all together. Which takes a crap load of time.
OR
Design a kite with 6 panels on the LE and canopy. You would have it made in half a day with 1 person a sewing machine and a knife..
I made one of these up.
What happened to the Red, Green and White rip stop nylon in the construction photos.....was there a twin never released to the public......still in the closet.... or did it get badged and sold as a ...insert kite brand here.......... kite
