I have just moved to Maroubra and have seen a kite out a few times this week.
What is the situation with kiting at Maroubra is this ok? Do you have to wait until the lifeguards leave?
The situation at Maroubra is tense to say the least. The beachies on a whole are cool but a couple like to assert authority especially since many european visitors tried to kite there with no regard to flags, surfers or local kiters. I grew up surfing at Maroubra and kiting there until the hassles started. The easiest solution for me was to move. Now my beaches have no flags or beachies and hardly any surfers and I can kite where I want, just wish I could get a good job to update my kit. Hope this helps.
There are restrictions. Speak to the Lifeguards.
Not sure how current the info on this post (2006)

Also, Do not drop in on any surfer who has a tattoo around his neck or a post code on his back if you value your wellbeing.
I kited there on a wet windy day and had the beach to myself. The next day 'when it was sunny' there was a couple of thousand people along the stretch of beach. Although it was windy enough, I didn't set up and paddled out in the onshore instead. btw - The 'tuff guy rep' over there's all hype.... (W.A's waaaaay worse).
Perhaps a local could let you know if kitings still allowed there... or.... Private Message you somewhere better to go on a sunny day when Maroubra's bound to be busy with swimmers etc.
They've had their fair share of kiters in the past making total dildo's of themselves. Try and rip it up to help out kitesurfings beach cred.![]()
I don't like being the bearer of bad news, but...The Southern Courier reported in August 2010 that Randwick Council has placed a ban on kiteboarding at Maroubra Beach when the beach is being patrolled (ie:7am-7pm):

The professional lifeguards who work from the blue tower towards the middle of the beach enforce the ban. So if you can convince them to let you get a session in, then you are in luck.
