Forecast for Sydney area tomorrow is a Southernly 30+ knots and MASSIVE waves (15ft)... Being the new kid on the block here I'm hesistant to get out in waves that big. I've kited Brazil, Cape Verde, Mauritius, long stretches of Australian coast line and so have decent wave experience, but I've never gone out in anything this big...!
So I'm wondering if there's a beach you'd recommend in these conditions that is slightly more sheltered for this southernly swell. Collaroy side of Long reef? Manly is a no-kite zone but geographically it would look like the waves should be a lot smaller there.
Any recommendations?
Sounds like fun.
Remember to pull the bar all the way in as you carve up the face of a 15fter and SEND IT HARD. AND BOOOOOOOOOOOOOST!
Also remember to double release if things get hectic, you can always buy a new kite, but you have 100% chance of drowning in 15ft with strings wrapped around your arms and legs!
Only one way to find out and thats do it!
Lurk on the inside for a while then venture out into the madness. If you get that sick feeling in your guts and really aren't having a good time its beyond your comfort zone call it a day. If your loving every second keep hauling.
PS i'm in NZ not aus. Be we get some insane days here. some days I love it. Others its just too crazy. I catch a few monsters and then call it a day thinking i'm the man.
my advice for huge swell. give it respect. keep the kite out of the water at all costs. loop it if you have to. but make damn sure its not ditched in the impact zone. also try not to loose the board!.... so maybe take it a little more conservatively than normal.
pss theres nothing wrong with rocking it on the inside of the white wash. I've had some of my best sessions there!.
Yeah I think I'll be hanging in the white wash on Narrabeen tomorrow morning. If I bottle it, I'll head up to Pittwater...
so we are talking tt and not surfboard? Seems pretty tough to keep the surfboard on the water with those winds and gusts. Right now the gusts are reasonable for tt riding, 28knt to 38, but early the gusts were pretty extreme here in Jervis bay. Hopefully tomorrow will smooth out and that massive swell comes into the bay....
Makaha will be goin off tomorrow . If anyones kiting there tomorrow please please take some footage so all us dayworkers can drool over it later.
towboard would work! extra weight, no jetski, just a jet stream! small, narrow, big concave, and straps....hmmmm might have to look into that
bigger the wave not always bigger the boost, hit those perfect smaller kickers at mach 10! and transition to the one behind it!
