The action is at the end of the vid. I was on the wave first and closest to the breaking section. I could have pushed my bottom turn at about 53 secs, but I did not want a line tangle. He is a toeside riding Italian tourist! You be the jury...

sorry, at about 56 seconds, after the guy going out gets past.

I dont really want to make a mountain out of a molehill, but I had the footage and thought it would be interesting to hear comments.

In retrospect, i should have just gone for it, but...

Given he has his back to you, he has right of way. My interpretation is that although you may have had right of you on the wave (too hard to tell if thats the case), it is outweighed by your primary safety responsibility to bear away from him.

He did not have his back to me - he was riding toeside, but i understand what you mean. He knew I was there - he was shouting at me that it was his wave. I felt it was mine as (1) i had it first and (2) i was closest to the breaking section. There was no safety issue - it was a question of who should pull out.

This one is easy to work out.

He's Italian, he kites, he liked that wave - its his wave you fool!

You should back out as soon as you see him dropping in on you. Even get hammered on the inside for him. Kites can be repaired anyways!

He doesnt ever drop in, if hes tracking a wave from anywhere - that wave is automatically his...even on the way back out, if he sees a tasty wave...he can sneak a quick gybe in and share with the guy already riding. Thats cool isnt it!?!

Look, no one else really matters - he's the best rider out there, should get the best waves and everyone must see him riding the wave of the day.

1st class w&nker.

I don't want to be the jury. I want someone else to be the judge and jury and I want to be the executioner.

Classic douchebag behaviour on the water and, just so as to remove any trace of lingering doubt, on the beach as well.

Regardless of who had right of way on the wave (there are plenty more out there) I believe you did well to hold it together.

I would have lost it had I been in the same situation with that antagonistic behaviour.

+1

Looks to me like you could lose a few kilos, fancy yourself as a charger - when in reality you muck about in knee high swell - and ride straight downwind, accross other's well established trajectory assuming you have a god given right of way... and then post a vid of your antics seeking approval for your behaviour.

Had to laff at the "Myooove! Fork orf!"

Good to see he applauded your act, he obviously enjoys a good circus.

hard to tell but looks to me like a pretty long full wave that had two breaking (barely) sections. He was riding right and you were riding left. both closing.

He bared away down wind when you got close, so you both ended up going in the same direction.

Complex situation and rules difficult to interpret and probably conflicting.

Too much agro on both sides if you ask me, chill out and get the next one! right of way can be a tenuous thing in waves....

who should pull out...?

I believe that it should be you

pullin your head out your arse

first wave of the day

force yourself down the line at speed doing weak turns

you could have slowed down and created a bit of distance between the two of you

a one minute clip posted by you is pretty arbitrary, that dude could have been there all day, riding from that same section on, hassle free

then some tool wearing a two tone brown steamer in summer comes flying down from way upwind and calls right of way

I bet you gots heaps of friends

To be fair, it looks like this is filmed in cape town, Atlantic side - water temp in summer is about 9oC. I wear a steamer in the coldest part of the Perth winter, water temp about 17oC.

Thanks, i appreciate the comments both kind and unkind. This forum is great - full of wisdom and wit.

It was in Cape Town and the water is cold, so most of us wear full suits in summer. I know, it does not look very cool and at my age I cannot be bothered to pull a pair of board shorts over my wetsuit just to try and look cool.

I did not get anywhere speaking to him afterwards but one of his kiting mates apologised for his agorance and said he was just like that. I guess some guys are just pr*cks. What was funny was he tried to terrorise me on the water afterwards - gunning for me and then pulling out at the last second, but I ignored him and he eventually drifted downwind.

I was in two minds as to whether to post or not. I have made enough of a mountain out of a molehill from this incident which if I had not got on cam I would simply have left, but i did think it might be vaguely educational and a bit funny.

There were plenty of other waves that day. Weak turns and all it is here if anyone cares

He is simply showing you how sore his arms are after using a silly bridal kite.

get over the bridals brother. your probably alot betr rider than alot of ppl on your 'direct connection' kites but i'm sorry to point out there are a zillion incredibly talented kiters with serious skills walking all over your style with their bridalled kites.
probably a couple of teuros in pink shorts too.

Pole is abot a metre long. The screw prevents rotation. Cable ties. Rollbar or handlebar mount.
