This time in Cape Town, these guys are all part of the same team that frequent our coastline............keep safe guys.
It may be just me...but I honestly do not know why this kiter forums keeps bringing up shark stories to insight fear.....It probably attracts readers if I was to guess.... But the fact is most kiter's only spend a small fraction of their water hours actually submersed in the ocean.... the rest of their time is spent either in the air, on a wave or skipping over flat water....any style...it doesn't matter! I also understand that most kiters learn somewhere and spend sometime body dragging about the shallows. With all this in consideration, nothing compares to the hours spent paddling out to secluded wave spots, sitting up on your stick and waiting for the sets to come.....dangling your limbs the whole time. The fact is, sharks rarely attack on spontaneity. I have kited over sharks, but I've also kited over schools of fish, dolphins and stingrays....its all same. I don't understand why kiters rave on about this crap for....It really is an embarrassment to our sport. Keep it real.......
As a disclaimer.....This also doesn't increase my chances of getting chomped.
I dont think we taste very good to them, they usually only take a leg or an arm... So even if you do get munched, you can still kite......
In my case, I dont think my kiting would suffer with only 1 good leg...
the only 100% method to prevent shark attack is to stay out of the water ![]()

Interesting that the shark just chills there. Still lots of controversies about the "rough shark" theory and whether to hunt it down.
Statistics wise, the obvious has been stated time and time again..
If you are not scared of driving or suffocating whilst eating, it's highly irrational to get excited about sharks, especially whilst kiting.
That said, exceptions do exist, e.g. the South-East coast of Florida at certain times when hundreds of them pass close to shore. It still comes down to individual risk assessment, but personally I would neither dive with sharks, nor kite with shaky legs because I'm surrounded by them.

I wonder when were going to start seing kiters wearing divers knifes .You can fight off sharks and cut your lines if you get into trouble.
