I have sold all my twintips and have moved to surfboards... I need a skimboard for shallow flatwater spots when the wind is too offshore to ride waves...
Any tips and suggestions on what to look for for upwind ability and ease of use..(i'm old and not all that great of a kitesurfer) Looking for something fun, twintips bore me...
Thanks.....
Pretty much any skim board will work fine for what you describe- I have used 5$ ones from reject shop and been able to ride upwind pretty easy. Really you want one with enough volume and length you will pay a little more. Obviously the foam ones would be a little better but more pricey.
If your going to be riding flat water though I would recommend getting a wakeskate easier to do tricks with etc than a skate and the upwind is almost as good. I ride an airush skate but I'm sure there are a lot of other good skates out there. Something to consider
If ur in WA we have the Shinn Waterboard available for demo.
As the monkey says there isnt a huge variation in skims. Some have better graphics than others ![]()
^what kind of skate? most of them don't go upwind too well, but are great for downwinders or overpowered fun
Pretty much as stamp says. Basically any board designed to be ridden behind the wake will generally have more rocker which gives you better pop, the trade off is that you need more power the more rocker you have. In WA wind strength shouldn't be a problem so it's just a matter of riding powered up, once powered up will perform just as well if not better than a kite skate IMO.
