its so much better marv, def need to use it for nationals, all comps should have to follow pkra rules anyway, it really awards power and makes you go for better/bigger tricks.
Im yet to compete but the rules sound good.
Only thing I don't like is that a crash is awarded a 0.0, I reckon it would stop people attempting crazy tricks in competition if they arnt 100% sure they are going to land it.
Obviously not worth full points but depending on how close they come to landing the trick, some points should be awarded.
Comps would be even better to watch
Fair enough, but I bet there are a range of high scoring tricks that you can probably do but wouldn't consider trying in comp because the risk off crashing?
It sounds very very similar to the asp system (pro surfing) where there's five judges and the highest and lowest scores are cancelled out leaving only 3 which are averaged out, the asp also has the a wave limit and gives a minimum score if the surfer falls of, it almost sounds as though they,ve taken their scoring system and adjusted it slightly.
The major difference between the two though is that if the location is known to be challenging (pipe or teahupoo) they will give the surfers a decent score for putting their balls on the line and going for it, which is great cause it gives an incentive to go for insane waves and makes watching the event more exciting and sometimes they even make the waves.
All in all it's a good system for scoring bit their needs to be an incentive for competitors who are pushing the limits
