Hey guys i'm super keen to get into kitesurfing and will hopefully have my first lesson in the next week or two. I am looking at a cheap kite and board that will serve me well for a while (i'm just a povouni student). I want one that is gonna give me a fair bit of speed. I'm about 85kg 6ft 2". I have been looking at this one in my local area...

Just wondering if you guys can recommend which size would suit me best and whether this kite will give me the speed i'm looking for after I have moved past the beginner level. Or if you could reccomend a good one around this price range (maybe a little more)
Cheers
hey Singdizzle
Probably looking at between a 10/11m as a first kite based on your weight. But hold off until your lesson, price should not be the only major factor when choosing your first kite. the Best Yarga is a C kite requiring more technique to relaunch. Read the forums before you buy and do your research. Plenty of cheap kites have turned into expensive mistakes for rookies. Find out what your instructor will be teaching you on, get their recommendations, talk to the crew at your local beach see what they ride.
Remember buy with haste, repent at Leisure!
cheers todd
I agree that the Yarga is a technical kite that may not suit your needs. If its your first kite then you may want something that has a forgiving edge rather than something that will slap you. Possibly a switchblade which is a little older and there fore cheaper but will give you the chance to throw the bar out and "get out of Jail Free".
Whats with wanting to go fast?
I bet the first time you get up on the board you will feel like you are flying. The fastest kites in the world at the moment are the Fone bandits Bandit 3 You should be able to find a 10m bandit 1 at a good price which was allso the fastest kite when released. But if you want something a little less scarry try a cabrinah crossbow 2nd fastest kite in the world. There are a lot of other good kites that would suit a learner to intermediate ridder but if speeds your goal try one of the two above. I wouldnt say a yarga is a fast kite.IMO
Good luck with the lesson.
Been there done that. Avoid the Yarga's. They will retard your advancement and eventually you will be pissed off.
Talk to your instructor. Get one kite. There's plenty out there. A 12m or 13m of any brand in a SLE/Bow will do you for your first year.
Don't go less than 135cm in your board.
Avoid ebay.... Avoid anything pre 2007.
Kiting can be a money pit if you rush into buying gear. :)
09 Bandit 10 or 12m, These kites are powerful and relaunch really well due to their rigid structure and shape, the 7,9 and 10s are fast and pull above their weight.Have just taught somebody on an 09 Helix and I have to say the kite is a nightmare to relaunch on lighter days and love to fall out of the sky so avoid those.
In my experience Waroos,Helix and Rebels sometimes roll up and can be a real pain to relaunch.
The older Cabrinhas fall apart or haven't lasted well so avoid those too. There is a big difference between 06 and 09 build quality on most kites out there.
