Just for comparison.

Some unstrapped unpowered unkited air.

The second half of this has unstrapped hooked in air

^^^I can't draw any similarities between the 2 vids you posted... as close as I get is that they are riding things that look like surfboards.

I could find more than that, but the way I look at it its all apples and oranges.

Strapped, hooked in, unstrapped, unhooked, offshore, onshore - even twintips. They all have different potentials and as long as they develop to improve the gear and performance in each, I think its all good - they can all go their own way.
I dont think trying to force any one of them toward something different is the way to go, but if you can learn something from another type of riding - great.

^^^ Pretty true words. The only thing I must add is they are what they are. I don't think anyone tries to force another to a type of riding do they? People do that themselves after they realise they are ready for the next step in progression.

Shall we pick on your spelling Rowdy?

To me, that pic represents what kiting is all about. Using a kite to have fun in the water.

Arguments over choices of style and equipment is just opinionated wanking.

Only if you want to be one of those online spelling nazi-wankers... I guess you can be one of those now instead of one of those "style and equipment wankers". Just make sure you never make a spelling or comprehension mistake ever and you should be sweet to go.

I've seen people claim unhooked strapless as 'progressive' as if its the only way to progress. To me, progress in all directions is valuable as you dont know where each will end up until you get there.
Its arguable that unhooked strapless is the closest to surfing in certain wind and waves, and for some that is the only direction they seem interested in going, but its not the only direction that is progressive.

Is ROWDY talking about the guy's riding style? I thought he was making reference to the dude's fashion sense. Lime green board with a yellow "full throttle" t-shirt... surely this is more whack than the guy's style! Hey maybe this is what the narrative at the top is referring to when it says "risk"... ?

I think that the picture, overall, is pretty cool... regardless of what sort of board is involved, the amount of SPRAY is what it's really about... so good on him!

To add to the spectacle it would be great if he could bust out with some finger-bangin' skill display, maybe a 'hang-loose-bra' pinkie & thumb sticking out, that would go well...
