Ok so just wondering, due to the wind or lack ov it this holidays im keen on setting up something .. my dam is about 200x250 and i was thinking about setting up something in there.. i might chok up an old car and take off one. ataching a ski rope to the rim ? and starting her up and off u go.... mabey set up the slyder in there or build a few kickers ?? its only about 2 meters deep and is perfect realy... any furter ideas ? or is anyone keen on the idea could be a bit ov fun ??? use my dingy to pull the rope back to the other side... any ideas thoughts all info apreciated
Oh man if I had land like that I would build a full home job cable setup.
You could do a 2point system with a bit of work. If you could do a 200m one direction and turn around go back each time would be amazing.
If you have some decent trees close to the sides of the damn would make it easier.
naaaaa no trees and im 14 so no time/ money for a cable park haha and what do u think of my idea..... and feel free to come hit it anytime if ur in bundy... if it works haha
Yer it will definitly work, just setup some kind of guide to make the rope feed the rim properly or it's going to be very dangerous.
If you could weld something to mount under the car, bolt to the tow points neat enough you don't have to take it off. If its a bush basher that is.
Ive half built a winch but too poor to buy the gear to finish it hahah.
haha ok wat would u sugest as 1. rope and 2. would i have to extend the lip ov the rim to house 250m of line. and what would you sugest to make sure the line feeds evenly ?
You should be able to find a good rim with deep enough lip for the job. Your going to need to buy some dyneema in 3-4mm look up Amstel blue. Available on eBay cheep for long lengths. Well cheaper than $3 a meter.
Or hit up your local Telstra worker for some blue and yellow Telstra rope. Not ideal but cheap if not free. Your guide needs to be a rectangle just less than the width of the rim. Have a look at some whiches to see their guides. Need to make sure the car is mounted well and steering locked.
yea sounds good and yea telstra sounds good, not spending heaps.. thanks for help any other tips !!! come hit it any time :) and how should i build sliders and kickers ?? easy and cheap
Sounds like a good idea mate! very innovative. You would have to make sure you find the perfect speed for the car.
But man please watch out! It does seem like something that could go very wrong if you don't do it exactly right...
Haha I didn't know it was that easy to buy Telstra rope so cheap.
If you can fit 250m on the rim would be sweet. Find the widest rim you can and the deepest walls to fit the rope on easy. But you Shouldn't have trouble fitting all that rope.
I'm so jealous of your damn. Got any pics? I want to see what you have to work with.
I want to see homemade kickers and sliders, and when the wind is up you better dam get your kite in there.
naa my dam wall it to steep to do that
This looks like the kind of thing Daniel from "We Can be Heroes" or "Angry Boys" would have rigged up with his fully sick Pulsar out on the farm dam.
...and then got Nathan to test it...
how is it gona cost money ?? i have the car, the dam, the handel all i need is the ropw and a day of hard work ??
If you have an old trailer, take one tyre off and drop it in the far end with the rim over the water. You can use it as a pulley and get a run up and back from the one winching.
hey thats an awsome idea how would i get it to make it so the line sticks can you explain it in more detail ??![]()
Mate, I have a similar size dam.
Much easier to just find a cheap tinny with a 25/30Hp outboard in my opinion.
Your saying you need a boat to take the rope back anyway.
Anyway, let us know how you get on![]()
Jesus the kids 14, 250m of dyneema? We used $2.50 yellow and red crap rope from the cheap shop behind the 4wd on the beach, i think it was 30m. That rope is now 7years old and we still use it, sure it breaks occasionally but at the price who gives a fluffy duck.
Good luck mate but get some help locking that car down and make sure you can stop the thing.
yea mabey but that would wear the rope to buggery and regarding rope im using some telstra rope $45 for 250m exacly how much i need![]()
You could paint the inside of the rim with that rubber wet sealant they use in bath rooms and to waterproof ponds with. Any how it'd only wear down the first part of the rope!
What gear do you think you'll get up to? :P
Dude you need to build a winch like we did for the winter season...
Might see ya at Elliot when the winds up!
