For the last 3 winters I've headed offshore looking for sun surf and wind. That part of my trips has been great.
On the last three occasions when I step foot back onto our fair shores I seem to end up with the dreaded lurgy.![]()
I'm convinced I catch something during the flight back home. I'm starting to think I would be better off staying home and putting up with the cold.
Anyone else experience the same?
Getting into the flying petri dishes they call airplanes frequently ends up in people getting sick.
On the one hand if even one person has a cold they spread germs over the entire plane thanks to the recycled air.
On the other hand have you ever looked under the seats and/or where the floor meets the walls on planes? They simply don't clean them well enough and there is all sorts of rotting food and gunk (every Qantas plane I have ever been on, even in business class)
Actually it surprises me more people don't get sick from flying.
everytime i travel i carry a bottle of fess and continually shoot it up my nose . Keeps my nasal passage moist and i have never gotten sick off a plane trip .
I heard about 6 months ago that qantas (and I am sure others) had ordered crews to reduce the fresh air intake to about half what it was in order to increase fuel efficiency.
Also you have to wonder about the freshness and cleaning or replacements of filters if this is the prevailing attitude.
I like Dr Karl, but it still doesn't explain why you get sick so often when you get off a plane, maybe it was all those Thai lady-boys you went through in the days before the flight but I prefer to blame the flight.
HAAK, that will teach you for drinkin dodgy banana juice for two weeks and no bintang
My daily diet of banana pancakes & bali coppee (breakfast), nasty gorengs (lunch) and grilled fish (dinner) along with a constant bintang intake kept me hydrated and the bugs at bay. Got home healthier than when I left !!!!!
Mrs HAAK didnt look too good at the airport departure either.
Same time same place next year ![]()

Yeah, she had a pretty rough 24 hours, not to good when we landed.
Got to go back next year to get the other arm covered now ![]()
Next year is looking good. The place where I kited in Sanur was heaps better than the 2 kite beaches down the southernd. Straight out to the waves, none of this 45 minutes to get out like it was at the kite beaches.
Thanks for the advise fella's. I know which airline I won't be using next year.![]()
