OK kids,
Haven't been on this site for a while now... However I AM now in my 3rd year of a Bachelor of Creative Technology...
On to the Kiting Game.
This semester I'm using UDK (The engine used for Unreal Tournament) to create a level in a random game I think up and I'd love to make it somehow kiting related.
~ Should my level be just a say 4x kite race with tricks in-between?
~ A single session type level, highest trick score wins?
~ Park environment, rails, kickers etc.
~ As you are playing do you just want to see the rider or see the rider and the kite (meaning you'll be pretty small to fit all that on screen).
There are so many possibilities I just thought I'd throw it out to the riders themselves for some feed back!
And who knows, I mite be able to make it playable for everyone to download and play!
Look forward to seeing some feedback!
Cheers.
Which uni are you studying at?
There was a cheesy Brunotti kiteloop game, maybe expand on that - choppy water and gusty winds so you gotta time it correctly to get a good jump, then throw a loop at the right time.. it's gonna be epic, HD guaranteed ![]()
If you're trying to give it a realistic feel, do away with the graphics and make it a text based game.
Structure it like an online forum, incorporate a heap of AI chat-bots for realistic interaction and have the player awarded or deducted points or red & green thumbs on a sliding scale based on, the street cred of their posts, creating flame wars with associated wind sports and other kiters, beach PR being affected based on the player's posts, pimping gear, promotion of exotic kiting locations, the successful or not creation of multiple logins and the overall goodness or badness of the player's online persona.
The player loses when kiting is banned at the beach or they're banned from the forum, the player wins when their points/green thumbs and online friends reach a certain level.
Bonus points could be awarded for successful trolling.

Thanks for the feedback fellas!
@KnutH Studying at JMC in South Melbourne. And I mite have to see if I can locate this Brunotti game.
Like the shorter strings idea, get the kite into the frame a little more.
The concept of using the kite lines is there, maybe not for decapitating skippy, but something.. maybe trolls?
Rails and Kickers mite just have to make an apperance, getting waves to work may just be a little too difficult for a noob at UDK programming eh.
Later. See you on the digital water. (ok that's cheesy as fk)
Although I like my previous game idea best ![]()
Here's a bit of research for you;
I don't know how good they are, but I found a couple of games you could check out.
Wii game-

Phone app game-

Good luck, I'm sure it's not going to be easy.
There's one other thing I want to know, slightly off topic but kinda related;
When is there going to be a B-grade movie made that is based on kiteboarding?
Some of you old boys may remember movies like this based in sports like skiing etc
Anyone remember Hotdog? ![]()
Make the environment as much like JUST CAUSE 2 as u can, in fact a few tweaks and that game could be almost there. ![]()
Wow, thanks heaps Oceanfire, that's awesome to see some games already created, helps with some of the concepts of control I'm dealing with. As for Just Cause 2, well one can only but try eh.
Here are a couple of test renders of stuff I've been modelling.
Stay tuned!
Have you ever played Kelly Slater on Xbox that game was the bomb I've always wanted to play a kitesurf game like that...
Modelling looks sweet!
I tried the iPhone game mentioned above. The way the controls work are actually pretty good, but the game graphics is pretty bad. if you could do something like that but improve on the graphics, you could be on for a winner.
looks like its coming along nicely, (i think boots on the board are a must if u have kickers & sliders.)
