The season so far reminds me of summers from years ago, when it literally was blowing 7 days a week, and WA earned it's reputation for being windy...

First time iv kited in Perth this weekend, went to woodies an meville (live in gero)

Here I was thinking 10 kites in one spot was busy I have no idea how there are no accidents especially along the south side of woodies with the beginners with instructors ,then the guys just getting on their on feet an the heros boosting meters from the shore. Real eye opener to appreciate what iv got at home

Been down there at least once a week over the past 6 weeks. Pretty much direct onshore most afternoons so it a does offer a sense of comfort when trying out new equipment or using equipment perhaps not suitable for the conditions. Was there last Monday trying out a sector 60 in swell as a possible L2L board, and went down with mates today with only an 2013 13m edge & a Manaro V1 in the trunk, lent a mate my TT... at least if all went pear shaped, you break a line, burst a bladder etc it would be long before you back on the beach. Wouldnt have taken out the 13me edge in todays winds anywhere else. Once we felt confident with the gear we head up round the point, even took a trip towards Carnac island, kite buddy along side and equipped with hand flares ofcourse.

If you like paying around in some good size swell there are also heaps of sand banks a few hundred meters south of the beach that were seriously cranking up the swell faces today. Also most of the beginners stay near the beach so not much traffic once you head out abit further.

We did spot a 2.5m shark (musts have been around 4:30pm) a couple hundred meters out and decided to call it day :I

That was nuts. Finally some wild winds ... spray blowing off the top of waves, always happy to see that..

The wind pushed through great wind waves, and got the angle right, some wicked rides to be had.

Got to my mate's house for the usual pre-downwinda car shuffle and spotted his daughters new 4m Reo amongst all the gear in the kite room and asked if I could use it.


The wind was adequate for my 73kg's and the downwinda was unreal fun! The Kite was zipping around twice as fast as my VaporX 7m.


Had that same feeling that I had playing a video game from my childhood. That feeling you get when you finally find that superfast powerup and everything in the game happens at doublespeed for the first time.

Anyone who lives in perth and did not have fun on sunday is a bum.

Ranches!!! Haha, get pretty gnarly around Greenough Flats for about 20kms. Just nasty sharp rocks with no safe zones!
