Old Belmont Airport

I've seen guys out around the sand islands but not in the channel clsoe to the runway. (There's still planes coming and going from there so you'd want to keep an eye out..) Always planned on getting out there but haven't yet, sometimes some guys head over from squids in a westerly. Tomorrow might be a good time to check it out..

In a westerly or Nw get over around there heaps, but it is dependent on the tide which you want heading into the wind other wise forget it.
When the tide is right it helps in light wind.
There can be super flat water in behind some of the island, can even jump a few of them.
On a good day it can be excellant just like being on a tropical island with nice clear water

A few kiters I know go to a popular swimming spot a little north of the airfield.

I won't mention the name of the street, but if you are familiar with the area, you can probably work it out.

As Rick said, tide direction can have a big effect on the apparent wind here. Towards the change of tides, water moves quickly and is deep here.

There are also sharp rocks, oysters etc. A kiter I know tripped over while under his kite and cut his hand hospital bad.

It is pretty, clear, green water and sand, just pick your conditions and don't get into trouble. End up too far downwind and you will have to kite under the bridge. (I wonder if it can be done, now I've thought about it, I think I want to have a go at squeezing my 14 under there.)

Be courteous and thoughtfull of others there, lot's of families have been going swimming here for many years. (Maybe not too many on 18kn westerly days though.)
