It is time for change !
Kiteboarding is just one of the latest additions to the sailing community, but it has so much to offer that it will be beneficial to Olyimpic Sailing in general.
This is why be believe that KiteRacing should be part of the Olympic Sailing Competition from 2016 onwards.
Already now the campaign is carrying a lot of momentum. Personalities such as Virgin Group Chairman Sir Richard Branson (GBR), double Olympic Medalist Michael Gebhardt (USA) and Neil Pryde (NZL), founder and managing director of one of the world's biggest players in sailboat racing as well as the top athletes of the sport like triple KiteRacing world champion Steph Bridge (GBR), 9x Kiteboarding World Champion Kristin Boese (GER), the current KiteRacing World Ranking Leader Bruno Sroka (FRA) and many more are supporting the effort with full force.
The International Olympic Committee stated at the 2009 Olympic Congress in Copenhagen that the Olympic Movement must strive to reach out to youth around the world.
Kiteboarding can be found on every beach worldwide and is practiced by hundreds of thousands of people globally.
Kiteboarding is universal and has a strong following among women and youth on the highest levels. It is inexpensive to practice and enjoys a strong following as a recreational water sport.

Saw some tool on Teev the other day complaining about skateboarding saying "Is that even a sport?"
Same will be said about kiting. More of a sport than skiffle or kn golf tho. 100m running - don't make me laff - yrs of pumping juice and a 2 hr teev build up for a 9.8 sec race. ![]()
At least if it is kite racing it has a measurable and obvious result.
On the downside, it would be pretty boring to watch imo.
Slacko - 99,999 don't act like selfish fools tho so all good.![]()
Seriously tho - hundreds of thousands is surely an exageration? Or is it?
Spot on Galah.
the olympics is supposed to be about amatuer sportsmen , not paid professionals .
Olympics has been a joke for a very long time .
Never gotten involved in all the hype .
What exactly does it mean anymore to win an olympic event with the amount of money thrown at it .
I can imagine that it could be fun if you're actually competing, but I doubt I could be bothered to watch. I might read some commentary just to see what non-kiters think of it.
The 2016 Olympics are in Rio so at least they might actually have some wind, but god help them for wherever the next Olympics are held!
Why are you guys so negative? When kitesurfing would be Olympic then kiting would get more recognition. I use to do race with windsurfer and its great fun.
And if its intersting to watch ……good question. This is personal, like some people like watching tennis or swimming ![]()
What would kiting get "recognition" for though is the real question... I'm sure most windsurfers love it when people say "ohhh windsurfing, like at the Olympics when they race like sailing boats around that course"...![]()
One positive I can see coming from it though is a wider knowledge of what kitesurfing actually is, which hopefully will lead to less misrepresentation of the facts and a greater expectance of it globally.
^^^ what they said.
I'm not sure anyone is negative on the idea, just not overly positive about it being a tv friendly and relevant image of our sport... ![]()
Disclosure: I am a kite surfer and I vote. Oh wait. ![]()
Besides, if you want a spectator sport how about something like this:
