I'm loving power at the moment. i don't really care what kite size. but i want to be powered to just before the point of overpowered. you know that place when you can still control speed by edgeing but only just.
you pull the trigger and whammo. up you go. you glide around for a while and still have insane power than landings are super soft and smooth.
mmmmmh
love it!.
Mmmm...thats great...must be a terrific feeling, having the skills and confidence to enjoy the sport at that level. I look forward to the day when i can make a similar statement as you. Be a while yet though.
I thoroughly enjoy watching kiters with that experience and skill, they are inspirational to watch. We have a couple/few kiters at that level in our area. Great to watch, great to learn from.
You know it's on as you walk toward the water and feet sort of only just touch the ground as you go. Jump on the board dip the kite - Boom! Instant grunt, feels like you could pull tree stumps.
Yep love the power.![]()
I love the zig zag walk down to the water, and when you dip that kite into the window only so lightly wondering if your going to get pulled off that edge!
Bring on summer!
yes the zig zag walk. pull bar in and off you you skudd.
dorothyinste. start with a bigger kite in lighter winds work your way up!.. yes there is a zen or a oneness. kite and rider. some days i have it some i dont. yesterday useless.... today.. epic.
oh i forgot that little bit of white wash or wave lip. crank hard and fast. hit it and zingo. oh yeah.
Yeh good point plummet. I'm the same. Want power on tap, everyone is putting a 8m up I smile and get out a 10 or 11m. Yeeha. Even today some bloke commented that I must have been lit out there and I just smile and say how else would ya want it. Not mowing the bloody lawn out there, leave that up to the strapless crew. ?????
Funny thing is in the early 2000's that's all you had. Overpowered and balls to the walls. Nostalgic maybe cause sometimes it was just too darn terrifying. At least you have some control now.
overpowered + unhook + boots = to much pull, catch an edge and get concussion.
overpowered + strapless + waves = too fast, pulled off face.
sure its great for boosting and if i was a competent looper id make some room downwind, but theres a reason we have smaller kites!...
perfect conditions this arvo for that plummet high 20s on the 9mtr edge, laying horizonzal holding an edge after boosting over the incoming swell into the flat water, hoping you slow up enough before you run out of water, then head back out hopping and boosting over the incoming swell fully cranked, its heaps better than looking for wind, already better than last year i hardly touched my nine ive had it out a few time already in the last week, such a sweet kite in these conditions i felt on the limit but in complete control
yeah cauncy thats what its about. your right eppo. sometimes i don't feel like being at the limit of power other days.... ![]()
wisdom and oath.
we aren't talking about overpowered. were talking about that magic place thats just before over powered.
We aren't talking about overpowered. were talking about that magic place thats just before over powered.
Thats where I was yesterday for a couple hours on my 11m in 25kn plus and waves galore with a few huge whales boosting out the back![]()

Sometimes while riding my 11m edge in almost 30 knots I find myself thinking "no man deserves this much raw power at his fingertips" but then I lock and load and boost and fly and smile and.....oh sh!t the sand is getting close....oh sh!t......ahhhhhhhh WHACK!
^^^^ Agree and you know that your on the edge of being overpowered when you launch your kite on the beach and instead of walking to the water you can just drag yourself to the water barefoot style
No it's not VB man , its about riding a 8m REO in 20 knots strapless slashing the face on Huge 1 foot sloppy wave on another unending downwinder. Yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnn.
Yo Eppsta, let the boring, "i'm cool" crowd keep buying there kites, it keeps the industry alive. And don't forget, that most decent kite brands still cater for the true kiters.
