Head to PNG for work,

can someone put me in touch with any of the local expats that are living in Moresby. Just want to confirm if its worth taking the kites and surfboard, apart from the diving gear.

cheers

If you are there for more than a couple of months it should be worth taking your gear.
I think our winter months are the best for the trade winds up there, same as North QLD.

Use the search for PNG, you will find a couple of guy on here that live there that have posted in the last 12 months.

JayP will hook you up. Turama is close to town (might be locked down with the recent happenings at the barracks) but there are some epic spots not too far away. Try and get up to Hula for a weekend.

Yes definately take both board and kites...and booties........and Jason is "da man" for info on both sports, send him a PM or he will find this post in due course.

Not much decent surf around Moresby (mostly wind chop) but killer waves on the north sides. Opposite for kiting - brilliant on the south coast, but crap wind on the North. Winter trade winds are the main season, but you will get odd days in summer if you are keen.

Jas sent out this email today, so some good course action happening if you are interested.

Hi guys

below is a quick run down on the race series planned for this year.

dates are based on best tides for that month (on a saturday)

the races are open class so you can use what ever gear you like. as long as you can kite upwind and change direction easily you can compete.

there are no awards or points its just a fun series

April - easy short course race taurama 14th May - down winder - sero to ela beach 19th June - long course race taurama 16th July - Hula race weekend 14th or 28th August - marathon race - taurama - lion island 3 laps 11th September - king of the harbour - hobies windsurfers kites 8th or 22nd ela beach October - short course (slalom) race taurama 13th

lots of new crew this year can i get an indication of how many people are interested in lessons? if possible it would be good to organise this for May (every weekend in May is good for tides) and early on the season so people can make the most of it.
