Chicken Loop? Donkey dick, stiffy, chicken doodle...I understand the phallic reference, but chicken loop i don't know.
Actually Dorothy it dates back to kitings pre-historic days when our valiant forebears were out there kiting (or trying to) on the original 2 line kites.
No cockpit control at all apart from steering & edging. These were hard-core dudes.
So hard-core in fact that when the 4 line depowerable bar set up hit the scene about the turn of the century they all scoffed & pooh-poohed the idea as being something only for "chickens".
They werent about to have anything to do with anything that pussy & gay.
("What" u say - kiters being negative a bout a new idea??? "Never")
Needless to say 4 line conversion kits sold like free hot soup at hobo convention to every kiter who didnt want to upgrade to a new 4 line kite. And sales of 2 line kites dropped to zilch pretty much overnight.
I wasnt around in those olden times but thats how I heard it came about.
there were also 2 loops attached to the setup: one fixed to the bar and one sliding (the chicken loop). it was a messy time
It's called a Chicken Loop because it resembles a tool to catch chickens. A long handle with a loop on the end, used to snag their leg. The Donkey Dick on the other hand is called so because you're a donkey if you use one. No, because you're a Dick if you use one. Something like that anyway. Now the Oh **** handle is named from the bad old days of zero depower kiting when panic mode was the norm. Your safety was connected to a back line, but just to be sure there was a loop on the end of that line which you could go for to flag the kite out. Oh **** was a very apt name in that case.
cheers
