An article appeared in my inbox related to "Body Armour".

The new material mentioned is Deflexion, a silicone fabric that hardens when impacted.

I was wondering how long it would be before this could be tested as a lightweight impact vest (possibly incorporated into a rashie), for those engaged in more extreme Kiting action?

Perhaps an opportunity for a kite related entrepreneur?

You could make yourself one at home with corn flour and water. Its non-newtonian fluids that will allow movement when its smooth and relatively slow, but with solidy with high impact forces.

Would the force of hitting water or a rock be enough to trigger it since the force is distributed over a larger area?

They put this stuff in the tongue of work boots now - "metatarsal guards" You can walk normally in the boots but if you drop something onto your foot the guard stiffens.
