Anyone had any luck putting prescription lenses in the seabreeze sunnies or seaspec ones? I went around this morning to a couple of specsavers and other optometrists most of which refused to work with them due to the curve in the frames.
One optometrist said no problems, but it will cost me $230 a lens and they can't guarantee that they will be 100% due to the lens curve.
Not so keen on kiting with $500 sunnies.
Anyone got lenses put in around Perth ?
Seaspecs do the prescription for you from the states - you just send them the prescription for each eye and they will mail them out.http://www.seaspecs.com/html/FAQ.html
US$195 for single vision lenses.
You can order directly from seaspecs and they ship pretty quickly. US$195 but $20 shipping. I did this and it came out pretty well.
Bought my from them as well 2 years ago !
Still happy with them and i using them almost every time I'm on the water!![]()

I read some pretty bad reviews on kiteforum from people who had gotten prescriptions through seaspecs which is why I didnt go that route in the first place.
didnt think the local optometrists would be so expensive though.
Or better yet, do what i did. Laser eye surgery so you can buy any sunglasses and you don't cry about your wallet when you loose them!
daily disposable contact lenses, they make them for toric (astigmatic corrections as well now ) approx a $1 a lens although you have buy boxes of 30 or 90 pretty easy ,wear it, then flick it (in the bin) when finished for the day evening whatever ....
the problem with curved Rx sunglass lenses is that you change the angle at which the light passes through the lens (which is what normally happens with a optical lens) but this effect is accentuated with the curve/wrap of the sunnies giving you a different power /correction /reading
any lens on what is known as an 8 base or greater will generally have to be special ground and compensated for that effect hence the price!!!
the other issue with high curve is thickness as the lenses get thicker as you increase curve and size ..meaning you have to use thinner material hence more price!!
most sunglasses don't have an interior bevel designed for thicker RX lenses so the lenses generally have to a special deeper sharper bevel to make sure they fit and stay in hence more price !!
hope this helps !!most people find the daily disposable less stress inducing as you only lose a $1 or $2 when you crash rather than the spec lens popping out from the force!!
Spectacle RX is different from the contact lens RX most optoms will give you a couple of free trial lenses to try out if you have a consultation with them for contacts ...... i am surprised none of them suggested it to you .....
...........the big mobs aren't interested as it might require them to invest some time
..........good luck
I have never been able to wear contact lenses.
Laser surgery is the way but just need my prescription to remain the same for 12 more months
Laser surgery tomorrow morning guys. Kiting half blind or contacts hasn't been fun. 1 week with no kiting is minimum recovery.
