Pump it up at Port

Saw someone pumping up a Blade kite in the southern end of the Port Beach, North Fremantle, car park about 2.30pm on Saturday and told him the beach there, even though it was howling and only a few swimmers in sight, was a basic no-go zone for kites and it'd be better if they headed down to the 'official' Leighton Beach area where he'd at least get a launch. The guy said he may 'wander down' that way. Dunno if he fully comprehended that any 'free for all' on swimming beaches, even if they are virtually deserted, is going to cause grief in spring/summer.
That said, the next day at Dutch there was a family sitting within 5m of the launch area and swimming in the transition zone. I told them they'd better keep an eye out for kites - they had a baby and a toddler - and copped a load of grief from the mum and dad along the lines of "Where does it says it's a kite area?" and "you want to be the parent to these kids?".
When they got out of the water I found out they were all very large people with tatts and I wondered if doing the right thing was actually the right thing to do!
Guess the lack of forethought applies to both sides ...

When I have kids I'm going to teach them to swim in kitesurfing, windsurfing, jet-skiing and water skiing areas so they can learn to harden-the-f*** up from a young age. They will eventually move onto swimming in shark infested waters and ultimately swimming in flood waters.
