Sandgate, Birsbane. Qld
Just looking at running a social based kite event over this weekend. Will have BBQ, Tunes and Beverages flowing over the weekend. This place is pretty tidal so will have a winch running earlier in the days to get some riding underway and then after lunch hopefully the tide and wind will be in to kite some rails and kickers. There is talk of if the wind is in before the tide running some social races, so if so will provide something for everyone. Main goal is to just get some social kiting events up and going again. Just chasing some numbers of people that will probably come for the weekend. Also going to have a competitor and social competitor entry. Meaning that if you wanted to come hang out or friends/ partners come, that wont be riding the obstacles, can still get a feed, shirt, beverages and whatnot for a slightly less price. Just thought i'd give everyone a heads up, so if they are keen to come can get time off and all the other stuff that goes with it..I'll keep everyone up dated on the progress, the first rail should be built by next week sometime so post some pics when done... Cheers

Have you got any idea on costs for riders etc and i would guess all competitors would need there insurance in place if they want to compete.
Yeah mate, dates are solid. We have the permisson from council and waterways already
.
Pricing is looking at being around 60 dollars or so I think but it hasn't been finalised yet. We need to do some cost benefit analysis and work out what price will yield the best results for the competitors. As has been said, our focus is on providing an enjoyable event for all involved, free BBQ and drinks is high on our agenda and we are focused on making that a reality.
Sounding good! I should be sweet to come up and take a few shots of the weekend, or have you got that covered?
Jase you did a top job as assistant! Holding the flash and giving it a tweak when it kept on going to sleep, plus making sure it didnt get washed away by the crazy tide. Haha light stand in one hand beer in the other.
Looking at the shot KBM ran on the cover your flash was the only one that fired. Props also due to the Porter brothers who bobbed around in the water in the pitch black with the other flashes.
there might be a few people down here i might be able to convince to come along. is it ok if they have only riden sliders and stuff a few times before? (will there be some simpler rails that they would be able to hit and not die when they fall off?)
Yeah Robbie come along man! The more the merrier! That way we have a chance of picking the very best shots for media purposes to.
As for skill level, everyone is welcome! This is no invite only type bull****, we want everyone to come along, even if you don't want to hit rails. Hopefully we will have a bus of some sort for people who would like to do a downwinder and a bit of a fun race.
Our goal is to bring the stoke back into the Aussie kite scene by running an event where everyone can get together and just hang out and do some riding.
I'm in... I've rsvp'd on the facebook group already I think. You might want a central spot to go to if you want to count how many people are likely to come.
Yeah as Alex mentioned looking at the cost being round the 60 dollar mark and if you want to be a social competitor prob be $50. Which will entitle you to bbq and few drinks for the 2 days. If your coming you can send an email to [email protected], saying your name, if anyone else in your family is coming and Shirt sizes for all participating.
There will be a range of rails that will accommodate from first timers to advanced, and there will be plenty of people to help out the newer riders if they wish.
I'll try get a list of local accommodation that is close to the event site aswell in the near future.
Cheers guys for the backing
Yes. We have been in contact with all local kiteshops and all of them were wanting to help out in some way so that was fantastic
.
The first slider as Cam said has been finished and is intermediate to advanced rail. The next one we will be building will either be a very mellow rooftop or a long mellow incline rail (or some variation of). Both of these rails should be great for the beginner up to advanced riders.
I will be in as well and bring some cool toys for everyone to try out..
Maybe I will even "hit" a slider.
Cheers

Hi Rail Rodeo peeps, check your email account, wrote you guys :-) The social comp is more about fun i guess?! I m kiteboard and wakeboard a lot, so maybe i should give it a try and hit some rails :-) Already pretty keeeeeeeen on it...
Can also bake some cakes...
I am old compared to alot of you guys and i will be giving it ago
. Will there be any coaching like in Makay?
Sounds like a good time! Will put in a big effort to get there. What else are you planing on building? Have some good materials to build a new kicker and rail for this season, if they fit on a trailer I'll bring them up.
We have a few rails in the line-up still. Hopefully it will go something like this:
1. 21m Step-up A-frame
2. 21m funbox with handrail, wallride and stairs.
3. 16m incline (or up- flat)
4. 16m rooftop
5. good kicker (not a moon booter, actually something you can progress on)
There will probably be some other features that should be fun also, we are still planning those though.
Thanks for the offer Kav, sounds awesome! Hopefully we should have it all sorted but I will be in contact if we fall short. Maybe we can have a little get together jam thing down your way sometime and we can bring a few rails to ride with you.
yeah the event is aimed at just being a fun weekend. isn't really a comp as such., just a freeride for everyone tha wishs to ride and hit sliders. the "social competitor" is just really anyone that wants to come, get a shirt, feed and hang out. building a 16m long 1.5m high incline now. this will be a rail for everyone to hit. super mellow and fun
