Hi there, I'm moving to Coolangatta from Nz in a few months. I surfed snappers on an onshore wind last time I was there. Just wondering is it possible to surf in offshore winds?
Or are there too many surfers?
Also thought wind shadows could be a problem?

Any info would be awesome.
Cheers

No-one surfs snapper when it's pumping and offshore, you should be fine, I doubt most surfers would have even heard of this semi-secret spot.....

and it's a really friendly vibe in the lineup, everyone takes their turn and nobody drops in or snakes anybody else. so it should be fine to grab a few waves with the kite. then head to the surf club afterwards for a beer with the locals.
that huge hill behind the beach- doesn't block the wind at all when it's offshore, it makes it more consistent and clean.

what did you expect? it's one of the stupidest questions ever posted here...what makes it so stupid is that you've been to snapper before and yet you still ask if you can kite it.

Line ups of up to 200 surfers on the pumping days and you wanna throw a kite amongst the que?

No kiting allowed at snapper. Simple as that ,bro

Cheers. Yeah guess it was stupid.
I've only been there on an onshore day so never
seen the crowd.

Are there any good breaks at all that you can kite?

any of the beachies are good, go south for less crowds. explore the coast from letita down to byron- there are heaps of options for most wind directions, and even a few that work in cross off wind (but you'll have to find them yourself).

You will get smashed if you kite snapper. But aside from that, it's a surf reserve, you can't kite there.

Rubbish... You can kite it, you just can't rig up and launch from the beach....you have to start at nth kirra and upwind there...which makes the wind N/NE and snapper so horrible that there would be noone out anyways and hardly worth the effort...
