Hey,
short time lurker, first time posting.
I've been playing around with a 2.5m trainer kit for a couple of weeks now, waiting for my lessons down in Perth.
Getting a bit bored just flying the kite through the air, and had a genius idea to try strapping a sand board to my feet ![]()
winds sit around the 15-20 knotts up here, or enough to pull me a bit down the beach just on my feet.
Anyone doe it? any hints and tips?
Any other way to make using the trainer kite a bit more exciting?
Hi Jar6d,
The trainer kite won't have enough grunt to pull you on a sand board. Try a skateboard or a mountain board if you want to roll on the grass or dirt. The mountainboard will also work on hard packed sand, but not soft sand.
If you want some fun, more advanced exercises to practice on your trainer kite, have a look at our trainer kite exercises page on our website.http://www.aksonline.com.au/index.php/kite-reviews/trainer-kite-exercises.html
Have fun!

cheers guy,
dont really have access to much equipment up in Hedland, so landboard is out (plus it'll prolly get thrown in the shed once i get a proper kite and twin tip).
And cheers for that site Kitehard, will have a play around with some of them.
I hate playing the waiting game!!!
2.5 m trainer should be able to pull you on a skimboard in shallows... since you are that anxious h whilst waiting for the lessons... not that i ever tried it, but logically it should work.
Yes do it. Once upon a time someone flying a kite wondered what would happen if they stood on a board. Continue the experimental attitude I say!! If it can drag you on the sand on your bare feet, a sandboard will slide easier, and be more fun, although probably only directly downwind, or at best a broad reach. Viva la experimenta!!!
i used to use my trainer kite and a bodyboard skimming across the shallows its fun and something to do when your waiting for lessons.
Hurts a bit when you fall but nothing to bad.

I have lots of fun with the skimboard but only tried it on a 9m and 12m. as jr walks said the body board is a great option. It will teach you alot of kite skills and lots of fun.
Yeah, I don't think that the sandboard will work, but a land-board will work on packed sand just fine.
Up in Canada, I used a 3.5 m trainer kite to snowkite on a frozen lake. It worked marginally until the wind hit 20 knots, and then it worked awesome. If there was any more friction on the surface (in this case the snow), then I wouldn't have had enough power.
A good way to make the trainer kite more fun is to try something like this. Using a skimboard, a bigger surfboard (however challenging), land-board, etc... A good place to learn some trainer kite skills is this page : http://www.kiteboardingevolution.com/trainer-kites.html
You can take these skills, and apply them to your land-board. You'll learn more and have more fun. Good luck!
Kiteloop it continuously in 20kts and you'll fly downwind with great speed with a sandboard.
Is it the Rush III 250 you have?
-3m airush trainer with a skate board (long one with fat wheels not the hell 4wd ones) in 20 to 25 knots at the local footy oval, just kite loop to the end!!!
-winter fronts with a harness lifted me a bit to0 doing big run and jumps till the wet grass caused me to do the splits
groan
-run/walk up the beach without looking at the kite at all just go by bar feel.
it really makes the diffrence wen you get something bigger with all the familiarisation your doiing....good work
from me... super noob.. heh he!!!
