Alright, as we all know the season hasn't been very good at all just yet. Now this is my first season and I'm absolutely loving it. I am so keen to just get out there everytime I can. But it seems that every day that I get back from work the wind dies down and only people on a 14 seem to be able to go out.

I've got a 9m and weigh 88kg I've been told by my instructors that that should be perfect for the season in Perth. The last few weeks however I haven't been able to go out at all (last weekend I was away).

Is this a climate change for Perth? are we gonna loose the seabreeze completely? Does it mean I should get myself a 14m? or is this just a few crappy weeks and will it pick up any day now? It might be because of the unusually cold december that we are having or not?

my first season here in 2009 I had a 8/10m. Hardly used the 10m and often only lasted to about 2 or 3pm on the 8m. Had a whole lot of mates come over in 2010 and told em to bring small kites. Luckily they didnt listen as we spent most of the time on 10-13m kites.

then this year is even worse. I brought a 9m and by the looks of it should be buying a 12m

Not sure if last 2 seasons are typical and 2009 was the odd one out, or otherway around.

how about you get an 11 or 12 in the same brand as you have now. (kite only) and use the bar you have. Also 88kgs on a 9m? If your a good rider then this would be suitable in 18-25knots, however you probably would need a bigger kite for marginal conditions until you square away your technique. Just remember... Pooh stance is a no no.

That will combat your dilemma and also get you on the water.

.... at your weight on a twinnie you need 18+kn on a 9m kite, which is an ideal sea breeze... so if you are so keen, yes, you need a 13-14m kite for the 12-18kn days which are quite frequent at the end of the season anyway.... many kiters tend to have an aversion to big kites because they are slower, but they are much fun on lighter days, and way safer for free ride / style stuff because they will not spank you that quickly when you mess up with a move... but if your thing is wave riding, then forget about them....

errr... just buy a quiver?

1 kite will never cover all the range that you need.

Get a 12. 13 or 14 maybe a little to big of gap. I have 7 9 12 14 and the 14 never gets used. (unless really desperate!)

I am almost 24. Is that relevant to kite sizes and wind discussion? Haha. I'm also an Aquarius and I like playing guitar haha. Just joking mate

Thanks for all the advise. I think ill save up for a 12 or 13.. or maybe sit this season out on my 9 and see if next year it is still the same. Then it would seem to really be a climate change

Buy a 12, then next month you will wish you had bought a 7! You can't win.

11 seasons and this is the worse by a country Mile. Nothing comes close to this year. I'm 85 kg and ride a cb wave and my 11m rebel still gets a good work out and the kite is seem to use 80 percent of the time. But on a tt go a 12m, but get a kite with good low end. Unless of course you heading up to geraldton or down to esperance in jan, feb, and if the wind does rank up in jan, use ya 9. Your instructor was correct recom a 9m at your weight with your experience.

i've had a couple of big seasons kiting 24/7 so not as keen as most in the 15-20knot chop, rather go for a skate at the moment.
Buy up on big gear like the guys have said, last season i bought a 13m 07 Yarga from the GSPOT for as little as $150 and was in much better condition than most of my gear, safe to say has helped out with the light on conditions. plus the yarga has old school charm that 2012 kites just don't have
