For those who have surfed/kited Balian, got a txt from an expat mate who lives there, a pommy surfer was attacked Tuesday morning on main peak, sustained pretty bad injuries to one arm but survived.
Shark species unknown, it is a rivermouth location and last June/July there were numerous sightings close to shore, that was thought to be a bull shark.
That must of been one of the luckiest sharks not be hooked by the super keen fisherman who strive to supply the masses in Bali.
I have not seen much sea life surfing over the years in Bali, and I would think a shark attack is a rare occurance.
To say that is more dangerous travelling on the roads to get to the surf,
would be a massive understatement.
I saw the biggest turtle ever out balian last year.
I was on my sup way out beyond the bommie and this thing popped just its head up a few metres from me; the head was so large, I swore it was some indo kid wearing big round goggles, and the first thing that went through my selfish head was 'fuc, I'm gonna have to blow off this session to take this kid into shore'
I was so relieved a split second later when I realised it was a turtle.
super Big fat high tide Balian is a sup surfers dream
pity about all those sharks but
side topic: i was looking at flying with jetstar to thailand, do you HAVE to use their sport luggage bs for boards (wakeboards) or can that all fall under your weight limits?
