Hi guys,
I was fiddling with the settings on my new North Vegas while my misses was out riding it.
She went out with the front line on front most setting ( first time out like this ), she was getting a lot of spray in the eyes because of her stance, as she would hold the bar further away from her body.
came in - changed the front line to the back setting, went back out.
No spray, & she would ride with the bar closer in because of the depower throw being smaller
Give it a try !
That's what your trim strap (depower) is designed for. You should always trim your kite for each session (and during each session) so that the bar is in a comfortable place for good body position.
Too many (Cabrinha?) riders refuse to adjust this strap because they think that it depowers the kite. This results in poor stance and oversheeting.
Poo stance is the main result of poor trim adjustment.
Watching the kiters at Caloundra today I would estimate that 50% of them had their kites trimmed incorrectly. Good trim is the secret to good stance.
Every lesson should include instructions on using the trim adjustment. Calling it a depower strap is the worst thing that happened to good stance.
Whatever are you going on about Dave? Pulling trim on is wasting your boost. Big huge air is very important, and you can still hold your stance you just need to enjoy the back leg burn
Sorry but bigwavedave is spot on here, Wishy, thats like saying aeroplanes should fly with flaps down all the time. durp durp happy near year retard.
Spray in the eyes... um well now I've heard it all.
I am sincerely glad though you have the spray issue sorted![]()
Some of you young fellas should actually pay attention to old farts occasionally!
Oversheeting your kite will not help you boost bigger. It will cause your kite to stall or become aerodynamically unsound.
Your trim should be set so that there is no stall possible at maximum sheet.
Read the fricking instructions.
You poo stancers annoy the f%$k out of the rest of us. It's embarrassing to watch you drop a turd while thinking you can kite. Straight arms, falling on your face, it's painful to watch.
Don't think depower, think trim and kite properly.
This especially goes for all you Switchblade riders with bucket hats, sunnies, gloves and reel leashes. ![]()
Now i feel better. Been meaning to get that off my chest for 5 years now.
Depowering with the trim strap just moves the center point of your depower throw in a direction, and when you want the power back you need to adjust the trim strap again - meanwhile there is still a big throw required to go through the available range of power with or without pulling the trim strap
Moving the front lines back made the depower & the working depower throw smaller - so your never tempted to go into poo man because it buys you nothing. Kite also site better further back in th window
Glasses - are ok but hard to see the surface of the water sometimes & they "crusty" & scratched easily.
Happy New Years
I wouldnt think changing line settings would change the distance of your bar throw that much that your stance would be affected. Spray off the front of your board is normally from the way you ride the board and seems to get less with experience.
If you are constantly reaching forward because the cruising position of your bar is too far away, you will be in the poo stance position.
By adjusting your 'depower
' so that the sweet spot is within comfortable reach, with arms bent, you can attain the proper body position with your weight behind your heels.
Too many riders think that this adjustment will depower the kite. Rather, it removes the possibility of over sheeting, and aids to achieve the proper body position.
Just because newish kites have 2 ft of bar throw doesn't mean the kite needs it. If you can stall the kite, you need to trim your kite. Pretty simple really.
I only mentioned Cabrinha because the Switchy is the kite of choice for lots of newbies here and newbies think that trimming the kite will reduce the power.
Thats what the stopper ball is for mate!!!
For sure you pull in a couple of cm to allow for over sheeting but not that much to adjust bar throw!!!
But we rarely have little enough wind to stall kites over here anyways ![]()
The girls I know love a spray in the face. Put some glasses on her and it should stop the stinging. Happy new year!
You are so right monkey boy!
If you have an incredibly quick kite that has light bar pressure and can be depowered by edging hard you will never need your trim. Sounds like you guys are flying absolute mudslingers?
spray in the face is more about your stance than the kite trim, straighten your front leg, bend your back leg and plant the pressure. You should be leaning into the harness with your rear foot as a pivot point ie: 80% of the pressure. ( different winds require different pressure and ratios of front to back pressure.
Kite trim is important fir your stance....without the kite being trimmed properly you will not be able to hold the correct stance.
