Thought I read somewhere that fish shapes (on a standard surfboard) weren't that suited to kiting?

Anybody out there using fishesque numbers in sloppy surf like we get in Perf?
those arent meant for kiting, they are for wakesurfing (literally surfing the wake of your boat).
im guessing the fish works better for this application.
i ride a swallow tail sometimes on kite and it needs a bit more juice than my square tail does, even with the square being a 5'9 and swallow being 6'2
They market it for both, but it is primarily a wakesurfer. However a wakesurfer is usually very flat rockered so as a really light wind weapon I could see it working ok if thats your thing.

I think I just sold it to myself, that was so believable.
I rode 1 in choppy light condtions. Personally I thought it rode like poo. It was like the flyers or step ins or whatever you call it were catching on the chop and flicking the board around. It might still work in the surf but i'd keep it for the boat only
One of our guys demo'ed the arcane in the surf.
He really liked it, apart from having to swim after it everytime he fell off

I've been riding the 2009 Airush chop top for awhile now and love it.
I come across a guy riding 2010 Airush lightwind chop top at Easter time and I was blown away how well this board performed. (5' 8" x 23' had to get me one)
Ive found this board suits me in on shore mushy fat waves up to chest high.
Been able to use a smaller kite is the trick for me.
If you're after a board you can rip on then its not for you but if your into fun and easy ride then its the ducks guts.

yeh I would say a fun board that can hold a decent slash would be where I'm at. If it can double as a lightwind board (I was also thinking of the 5' 8") then all good. I would still be thinking of using my twinny for days when it is nuking are getting big/ugly with the swell.
Any other boards similar to the Chop? I still think swallow tails are more marketing than function. Give my a square or even rounded pin tail anyday.
i can definately recommend the 5'8 celeritus- only board i rode last season and the season before that i had a custom one made which was identical to the 2010 production model! anything from 1 foot slop to decent 6 foot waves!

what size do you recommend for a 70kg rider in onshore and side off shore waves ranging from knee high to just over head high with lots of surfboard experience

for me the 5'8 is perfect , im 90kg so maybe the next size down(5'4). then again the 5'8 is such a sweet board i think it would suit pretty much any size rider. at first i thought these boards where suited to smaller riders but after riding the 5'8 im hooked and thats pretty much all i ride now for 95% of my riding. try demo both, i rode the 5'4 a few years ago and liked it but found it a touch small for me and for what i was after, it may be the right board for yourself but as your alot lighter than me!

What's the diff between the Aviso and standard construction? Strength? Weight? Shape?
im pretty sure the aviso is super light compared to the standard epoxy model, im not sure but i dont think there are any in oz due to the cost of these boards, i could be wrong but they were a fair bit more than the standard board and dont think Slingshot oz decided to bring any here. http://www.slingshotsports.com/Aviso-Moonshine-Celeritas?sc=45&category=17284
that price is in US$ and excludes postage. they are carbon fibre so maybe they are worth the price if they are indestructable! not too clued up but as i havent seen or ridden one as i just ride the standard 5'8 celeritus!
