Hi there,
I'm headed to Lakey Peak early September and have a couple of questions on travel and accomodation so would appreciate feedback from guys who've traveled there before.
- will I find an ok room (fan/net) if I just rock up late August or is the place likely to be busy as hell ? I m only asking because I ve seen this happen in Kuta Lombok a few years ago.
- has anyone done the Mataram/Bima trip by land with gear ? I had a very close call on a plane last year and decided my life may be worth a couple more hours stuck in a bus. Just curious to have feedback on this alternative
- last one, kite size ? I was thinking 10m kite and 6"2 surfboard only. I am 1.80m and 78kg, any comment ?
Cheers
Antoine
I went to Supersuck about eight years ago by land on a surfing holiday. The ferries aren't much better safety wise. we returned in one hit from Maluk to Bali and it took us 20 hours of Hellish travel, and this included the fast ferry from Lombok to Bali.
Lakey peak is always busy so bookings are a must. Catching the bus is the best way from Lombok and they organise the ferries aswell. A mate and I arrived in Sumbawa without transport to Maluk and had a real hard time trying to organise a lift there and were totally ripped of as we had no choice. We caught the bus that went to Mataram on the way back , it was cheap aswell.
Where did u hear that loco & what is this supposedly safety advisory about ? ... who issued it and for what reason ...
I been twice before to lakey recently ... no probs getting a fan/net room by just rocking up there - no need to book, as heaps of options ... the only air-con place with cable TV & internet is the Aman Gati - u might need to book IF u wanted to stay there, but again pretty safe usually to just rock-up.
Mate don't do the overland trip - can be a nitemare - the jet flights r the go ... takes a few minutes and yr there - well Bima anyway, then u've got to get a mini-bus to lakey which takes a coupla hrs ...
U should be fine with a 10mtr & 6'2" ... (altho always good to have another size in yr quiver if u can fit one in)
The MAN to ask about lakey is Jankie - the only guy in Bali who has a kite shop (Sanur) - has more experience at Lakey than just about anyone ... he does not do bookings for Lakey anymore, but will assist with anything else u wanna know about the joint & getting there etc....
check him out on his facebook page - www.facebook.com/groups/63988066680 or, www.bali-kitesurfing.org - he's on hols atm, so IF u need any urgent info let me know ok.
(by the way _ jankie has got stock of the latest 2012 Cab range, and u'll get at least 20% off normal U.S. RRP's if not more, if u talk to him nicely !!! haha)
cheers & happy wave riding,
Buzz
PS: I should be there later this month as well, so c u there bro...![]()
