Sydney - Where to live close to kitesurf spots

Hi All,

Moving out to Sydney from Miami, FL in January and will be working in the Rhodes area. I am stoked to get out ya'lls way to get some wave sessions in; mostly ride in flat water over here.

Does anybody have some good suggesstions on a neighborhhod to lease an apartment not too far from Rhodes area but not too far from kite spots. My wife and I are moving and looking for a 2 bedroom close to train transport and in an area where we can walk to restaurant bars etc.

Any tips would be appreciated.

The Inner West is what people in Sydney call the suburbs from Five Dock through to Balmain This is a reasonable nice part of the city. Lots of small houses and apartments lots of coffee shops pubs (Last count 15 in Balmain). Not that well serviced by train unless on the southern edge like Summer Hill Ashfield ect. But there is plenty of public transport and if close to the River you can use the ferries, Botany bays about 15-20 minutes away and Cronulla beach 30-40 mins away. the Northern Kite beaches like Long reef are most probably also about 30-40 minutes away. Sydney is a massive urban sprawl with many lovely places to live within 45mins commute of Rhodes, From semi rural to inner-city ,Beach to Flat land suburbia.

I used to live in Dee Why. Great spot, 5 min drive to Long Reef for Southerlies, 5 mins to Narra for summer seabreezes (note, these are much weaker than the seabreezes in Botany Bay). Probably 25-30 mins from Rhodes. **** public Transport, and a few little cafes and restaurants but not that lively.

I now live in Newtown which is 15 mins (drive) to Botany Bay (much more consistant in NE'r and you can also kite Southerlies), 25 mins to Rhodes, and 35 for Cronulla/Long Reef for swell. Tonnes of restaurants, bars, pubs, cocktail lounges, shops etc. Is easily my favourite part of Sydney in terms of chilling (coffees, drinking, eating, shopping, walking etc.) However, it is at least 20-25 minutes to any surf beach. Is directly on a train line which is 10 mins into the City.

I will be living in Kensington in a couple of weeks. 10-15 mins Botany Bay, 30 mins to Cronulla/Long Reef, 30 mins to Rhodes, 10 minutes to a surf beach. Served well by buses. A few little cafe's around but nothing like Newtown or Surry Hills. Nice leafy area though with Centenial Park and the Racetrack walking distance.

PM me if you want more info. Note that all the travel times I have given are by car. If you don't get a car you will not be able to kite easily or frequentely. Unless you live on one of the above mentioned beaches. If you do this, getting to work will be an absolute pain in the a$s for you.
