Sad that such a magnificent creature had a such a humiliating demise, though would not like to meet him in the water!

That was Mrs G White.

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,26281690-401,00.html

"scientists who dissected the female shark say it was adolescent and not yet fully grown.

Still, it had already grown to a weight of around 700kg when it was caught in shark nets off a popular swimming beach on August 31.

Conservation authorities tried to save the disoriented creature by towing it out to sea but it swam back, became entangled again and died."

It's worth having a quick read of the comments on the News.com article - it shows the vast majority of people are horrified by the treatment of this big lass!

There are (of course) a few, shallow gene pool waders, throwing in their views though..

Is it rude to ask what happened to all that prime fish'n'chips fish? with a couple of thousand potatoes and some beer batter one could make a certain eastern suburb of Sydney eat for a week!

Holy Sheeeeeaat!!!

I stayed in that hotel & surfed the breaks inside the point about 300m to the right of that photo.

Even surfed it myself a couple of sesh's.

Mossel's has a couple of sick waves but BIG sharks that pass by those reefs on their way to Seal Island (in the bay) to check out divers in cages...I actually found this out after my stay in Mossel Bay. Never the less I loved the place.
