I'm lookin for some advice from the smaller riders out there on what they are riding in the stronger winds. (ie 28+)
I'm only 65kgs and so far my Airush 8.5 Flow has served me well in almost every kitable day this year. From around 12 to pushing 30knts.
But pushing 30 is the absolute limit and even when its over 25 its not as much fun in the surf on the directional.
So Im lookin at finally gettin a smaller kite for them windier days.
(Though preferably something with a decent low end too, so its not only brought out when its nuking.)
I've seen all the bigger blokes drop down to a 7 on days when Im still on my 8.5 and was wondering what the equivelent might be for me to drop to. A 6 or a 5?
I'm considering the 5m REV2 (or OCTANE), but Ive also heard that Airush have 2 new 2010 models (coming soon) that will be available in 6m.
(Also wondering if the bars/lines are compatible to swap between the REV and the FLOW.)
Been hard tryin to find kites to demo at this size and was lookin for some feedback from what others my size are using.
Any info on these or other brands would be appreciated.
(A demo from someone would be even more appreciated and worthy of a couple of cold ones!)
Cheers.

For me the new 6m RPM is the best kite I have ever flown on the small sizes. So well behaved and amozing bar control.

I love my 6! I'm 65kg and on the twin tip. I've got a DNA - was advised to go for a stable kite (less stalling, etc) for waves. (It still feels super responsive compared to my 10m Flow.)

Wind Range
Comfy wind range for me about 15-22kn (10m) / 21-40kn (6m). Doable -2kn on the lows and +5kn on the highs. - sounds similar to you.

What I did was compare the 'official' wind ranges for my kite to what it felt like in real life to give me a 'reality check'. Then I went after something approximate for when the 10m started to feel uncomfortable based on the 'official' vs 'reality check'. Think I would have gone for a 7 given the choice but it depended on what was available in my case.

Hope that helps.

NB: These kites do have a lot of depower.
Never thought of myself as small tho! Guess the 45kg kids and chicks could be XS!

pharro i would take a look at the Fluid ATV 7m by far my favorite kite!

also the Royal Era has a good small kite and the DNA is cool but does not have the performance of the royal or the Fluid, the Fluid also has tuning options which are good.

At 65Kg,when its 35knots youd be lucky to even be able to stand on the beach without being blown away like a tumble weed.

Hi Pharro

I have been using the 6m DNA for the last 2 years and love it . However the new kites from Airush that you mention are due out soon . The Varial will be available in all sizes ie. 5m , 6m , 7m ..... The lithium will be in sizes 4m , 6m , 8m ....

I am using the Varials and a 4m Lithium at the moment and am super impressed with both types . I would say the 6m Varial would be perfect for you as it is the replacement for the Flow . Yes the bar you have can be used on the new kites .

Fairly sure that Airborne would be able to arrange a demo for you or contact me and I can meet you at Scarbs .

The 5m OS is a hit with small people and Girls. Designed it for my girlfriend to use in 35knots and she is 55kg.

Goes great in the waves cause it only has 3 struts. It drifts off the wind well.
Has a 5th line so its easy to self land. Its hard to find people on the beach catching your kite when its super windy.
