Yeah, AAMI does. Its called something like additional cover under home and contents. You specify the amount to cover and you pay the extra premium. It only covers theft from car, beach etc. It doesn't cover for damages while using the equipment.
I got a quote a while back for kiting and MTB gear, but never went through with it. If I find the doc's I will provide you some more info. I don't think there is anything online, you will actually need to call up.
rloemker is right, they can be covered as extra items under your home and contents insurance (not car insurance). I think when I got the quote froim HBF (in WA) it was about $300 for a year to cover about $3000 worth of kit.

I have recently changed my Home & Contents to HBA and am thinking now that I should double check.
But I was with CGU previosly and had "Gold Cover" home and contents insurance. I had a this specific conversation on the phone with one of their staff once. I asked if my kites, board or laptop was stolen from my car, would it be covered? The said that it would definately be covered.
But it would be very interesting to see how much trouble it would be to actually get them to pay out.
get an insurance broker to quote all your needs. if you have to claim he/she is the man/woman to hassle the companies.
hint,dont just approach one with a single policy, give em all your business.
I did all the research for home contents insurance last year- was really good fun...not...
HBF DOES NOT cover kites (arial device) or boards of any sort at any time, including from inside secured home.
SGIO doesnt.
AAMI seems to cover kites and gear but lots of terms and conditions, not sure I trusted the policy. Extra premiems to cover gear over $1000 value.
CGU does, and seems robust policy, tho not cheap.
None of them sound like they will cover if gear is stolen from car at night or not properly secured, ie sitting on the beach while kiting.

I have GIO PLatinum which covers all home contents out of the home. Read policy and kites seemed to be classed as aircraft! and other gear looked like it may not be covered under watercraft. I called and they wrote kitegear onto my policy as i wouldn't take their word for it... but not covered while in use as with all sports gear. also covers public liability which specifically mentions kitesurfers are covered - I'm a waksa member anyway tho
