Just came home today and checked my bank details to find someone has ripped me off alot of $$ using my account details from a withdrawal made in victoria

so just a word to all the perth rippers to not go using your bank cards at fast food outlets or one off nb atms, cause it may happen to you as well!!!!!

end result -> 21 day waiting period for refunded money, two cancelled bank cards that will be reissued in 5 days, no financial withdrawals for 5 days from either of the accounts (ie broke) as well as a 2hr waiting period on the phone to sort all this S$%& out.....

big shout out to my sister for lending me some cash in the meantime so i can continue working and waiting for my money bank!

That's crap Absey... these fellas sound really organised eh.

I have always used two accounts with the same building soc (no fees on extra accounts)... not to avoid fraud but cause I have to hide money from myself to save it.

One account has a card and atm access and the other doesn't. I get my wages paid into the non card account and transfer money by phone or internet to the card account when I need to make a withdrawl.

This way theives can have my card and pin details but unless they are making the withdrawl between the time of the transfer and the atm transaction, there's nothing in the account to steal.

Hope it all get sorted for yah

You don't need other theives. The ATM didn't give me my cash (yea, it does happen!) but took it out of my account. This was before the long weekend as well.

And no, the bank haven't given it back yet either!

My tip: Always cover your pin or pretend to hit some other buttons when punching it in (put two hands on the keypad) - and look over your shoulder for people / cameras, etc. And don't write it down anywhere - the bank will ask you this if you ever have any issues!

There seems to be a shizen load ok 'skimming' machines in Perf at the mo.

Good thing I never have any money in the accounts.

Cover the number pad as you enter the pin (been doing that for years - pretty sure aliens are tracking me.. ) and NEVER allow a supermarket/fast food/servo folks etc to swip your card twice - without first visibly pressing cancel.

The common routine is: swipe, enter pin "oh that didn't work (but not pressing cancel) swipe the card again, "please enter your pin number again". Bingo - 2 seperate transaction (one for details to be used later - the other for the actual transaction).

yeah the bank said it was highly unlikely from an atm machine but rather the thieves have been using efpos payment devices in shops and fast food joints to get the details.... so keep an eye out for dodgy looking devices or people that scan ur card a few times initially before u enter ur pin.

all in all lesson learned as this is a major inconvenience

The big thing to watch at any restaurant or fast food place is for people that wipe the card on their shirt when it doesn't swipe the first time. Its part of the scam, the don't swipe properly, then wipe it on their shirt and then swipe it through a portable scammer in the process.
