What does everyone prefer for their surfboards, wax or deck grip??? Board will be ridden without straps.

I have always been a wax fan, but demoed a board with a pad. I didn't mind it, but I don't think it had the grip of a fresh wax job. On the other hand, the grip was super nice on the heels and might preserve the deck a bit maybe?![]()
Depends what wax you use.
.
I tried the wax 'Cream', it was too soft and I found it got pushed flat after about half hour and became really slippery, not impressed at all. I usually use a hard wax which stays firm with heaps of grip.
.
Just put a full pad on one of my boards to see how it feels
I've been using Bali brew Palmers wax gives heaps of grip but tends to wear away easily so i put a bit of cool water wax underneath it.
It all comes down to what you prefer, give both of them a go and see what suits your riding.

I went the wax option, a layer of the hardest wax I could find out of the surf box (it was soo filth, covered in hair and other nasties), then a layer Magma which is a warm water wax.
End result:
For lasting traction I will have a block of wax and comb in the pocket on long seshes.![]()
Hey Gus, I use Cream wax and mate it's the best by far on any wax i've used in 40 years. Sounds like you are using the wrong type for the conditions. NE now for the next few days, if you not working we'll get a few sessions in. Give me a call, I've got heaps of Cream wax for the school. Tony
Deck grip on the back, quick humps with a softer wax on top so it lasts more than 1/2 hour. got about 1 1/2 blocks on my front seat after going shopping and leaving my board in the car![]()

in the tropics its next to impossible to get a wax that will hold in the 30+ degree water all the different set ups i have tried all wear off in 10 min. have to go full pad.
