Just wondering about the change of the Underground to Axis boards - has anyone got any experience with the 'new' brand?
I have a 6'2 Pohutu that is now badly delaminated (thanks westy - you know who you are - and I am an elephant!) but also have a 1st hand 5'8" Kipuna - what a fun board!! - surfs with flex and can take the boosting punishment
So with Underground 'out' and Axis 'in' - Im imagining that the boards are still amazing - is this the fact? Any Axis riders out there feel like commenting?
Underground seem to be trying to rebirth the brand, but all the designs are quite old and only the graphics on some boards have changed. The factory where they were made definitely is no more though, so who knows where they are made now? Also the guy that created the brand and supervised all the production is now with Axis.
Axis have a new improved version of the kipuna, its called the newave, we have stock now, only one size at the moment the 5'8". Rich Stenning and Leo Loro are team/test riders. Rich has been unable to damage the newave, but had caused all him kipunas to fail. The newave is definitely an improvement over the kipuna.
Axis surfboards are still undergoing final testing, Leo has a couple that he is testing for shape. He has had several boards and has broken some, but each new batch is lasting better and if anyone can hammer a board its Leo. I think production boards are still about a month or more away. Leo is frothing on the latest shapes and has been surfing them as well as kiting them.
You can see pics of the Axis Pro wave surfboards on their FB page here www.facebook.com/AxisKiteboarding?ref=ts&fref=ts
Axis TT's are excellent, I'm riding a 1.32 Vanguard, love it, rides so nice in our crazy chop.
James storm had been riding a new axis twin tip for over six months and loves the pop and the ride.Board has stood up well to the flogging he gives it. If any one can design a kite board its Adrian roper.
