Hi all,
I've been getting the sh##s with my harness... it's terrible, I end sessions because my ribs are getting crushed and the spreader bar is pressing into my sternum.
Any suggestions for a good waist harness that won't slip up the my chest? Or is it a matter of just trying many out and picking the best fitting one?
No, not keen for the seat.
Have you looked at a impact vest harness, ???
A buddy of mine rides one full time and swears by it. Otherwise try on as many as possible. Personally I found flying objects the best fit but lacked slightly in construction (that was 08/09 season may now be better). I currently use a pat love that is tough in construction but it does ride more than the flying objects. If you dont flog your gear as I do i would reconmend a flying objects for snugness.... Now you have got me thinking now about a new harness ... dam it !!!!
I had a mystic warrior 2 harness and bought a Flying objects flight control harness. Wish i had done it years ago
FYI - my XL Cabrinha impact vest harness for sale in windsurfing accessories - never rides up - I'm selling it because I've got too big for it (all muscle, honest)
You need to try as many harnesses as possible.I ended up with the North Styler. Perfect fit, never have to adjust while riding.
My harness never rides up and I wear it loose. But Ive read other people saying my exact harness rides up on them.
So different body shaped will fit with different harnesses. Best bet try heaps of different ones until one feels perfect. Don't let someone recommend what is best for them though!
Failing that wear a G-string over the top of it. That'll keep it lower.
Hey I had the same problem.. then I went to Kitepower and tried the Pat Love brand. They have a swivel on the spreader bar attachement and this means the bar and pad move but the harness stays in place. There is no pain associated with the movement and I've been the happiest camper since :)
I was undecided between the 'Cast' or the 'Quest'.. they're both very good and it is a matter of preference depending on your body shape.
I'll swear by Pat Love as I had tried everything and just could get the right fit. Follow the advices above - try them all, take your time until it fits right. Listen to the shop's advice but remember .. you're the one wearing it :)

Look for one with the rubber internal padding they are way grippier than the ones with neopreen or material padding, mystic, naish both do real nice ones for 010-011.
Dont know about the g-string idea though, but dont knock it till you try it i suppose, bet it gives you a massive wedgie in 30+ though.![]()
Have you looked at when and how the harness is riding up?
Is it when your boosting, or just riding around, or trying and failing tricks? It could just be as simple as adjusting your technique or accepting that certain things are going to make any harness ride up. Tried doing it up tighter?
I've been a big fan of the Mystic Warriors as they have the lower strap that keeps the spreader bar down. I've spent a bit of time using the ION Apex and found it to be exceptionally comfortable but as it's only a single strap it tended to move up occasionally. They're the only two harnesses i've ridden on multiple occasions, but i'd say that the second lower strap and a good fit would help fix your problem.
This might do the job. The new north waist harnesses with leg straps
I have the same issue, had to go to boardshorts eventually because my chest is smaller than a gonad in cold water.
i had the same prob when starting out(i am a stick man) , so bought the seat, super comfy and stays put
whats the prob with a seat, have heard limits movement somewhat, cant see how really
can someone explain ??
hi not pimiping or anything but i have tryed a fair few harnesses, had a Warrior 2 just recently and then tryed the Prolimit hadlow pro, its the nuts no movement and very little bar lift as well.
would you class the boardshort harness as a seat harness? Ive never worn one but the idea of wearin a pair of boardies with a spreader bar attatched to the front doesnt seem like that bad an idea...(as long as they were stylin boardies of course
) Dont wanna start a cool/uncool debate here, just points for function...oi...
Jimmyz back in the day before depower, kite next to the water and hard edging was how you killed power. Your probably not used to it since most kiters these days rely a fair bit on the bar depower to save their bacon. If you are overpowered the best place to have your kite is right next to the water to handle it. It may feel like more of a pull but your won't get pulled off your edge or get taken downwind on a speed run like you do with your kite higher. It sounds like you may have a slight harness problem though on top of things.
It's free to try to change your technique though.
Hey Jimmy, i've been having the same problem for a while now myself.
i have had a pat love cast and a cabrinha deluxe ( although the deluxe is too small) and both ride up. after a few jumps the spreader bar has ridden up and the harness to, just can't get it tight enough. Think i am going to get the new LF comp as the spreader bar has the hold down strap. same as warrior II and Hadlow i think.
I think someone needs to work out a better way of cinching these harnesses up.
Yeah, the problem area moving from "my ribs are sore because I can't kite properly" to "I look like a complete rookie taking a dump".

Yeah sums me up. Dont care what I look like, as long as I can breathe and be comfortable so I can have some fun. For me its about being able to relax and enjoy what i'm doing rather than thinking about my waist harness all the time. might be worth a try.
How about spending 0$ and fixing the problem at the smae time?
There are worse scenarios than just looking like a rookie with a seat harnes to, I wouldn't like to think what catching a nut in there would feel like

I been kiting for a few years and enjoy the surf and boosting. I've used a few harnesses but i've gone back to the seat. Feels great, no issuses doing tricks generally good all round. Not sure about lookin like a rookie taken a dump but for me image is not an issue.
