Looking at getting into a bit of wakeskate for something different.. Wondering if anyone has any experience and can point me in the right direction with regards to which board to get. Will be used in choppy conditions mostly
Cheers
its hard to stay upwind so look for something with continuous rocker, and a bit longer than average. i used to have a hyperlite scape 116 that went upwind well but it was too light to do any tricks.
if you do downwinders then it doesn't matter and you can use a proper wakeskate. i did a downwinder on my LF aaron reed 42 last week and had a ball.
there are kite specific skates by LF and cabrinha (and an old model by wipika). if you can afford it, or find a wipika, i reckon get one of those.
and wear shoes if you ride with grip tape
the lf wakeskate in my opinion is too light.. yeah expect to do abit of walking with ur skate.. sick fun though.. i've been riding a byerly 39" but ride a bigger kite with it.. sick fun..
For kiting I recommend getting a board with a rubber surface instead of tape, wet sand in heavy shoes sucks on the beach, and it makes it hard to switch between your skate and your regular board if the wind drops, also super flat water with at least a kite one size too big will get you going upwind alot easier (the average wakeskate is about 100cm long)

Grip tape a skimboard and then you can go in lighter wind than twintip instead of needing more wind/ bigger kite. Shoes and griptape aren't bad at all in the ocean in my opinion. Much easier on the board and feet plus way more confidence and control. I use a large zap which is about 54 inches or about 135 cm. bit more skatie but you get used to no fins and then you can ride the wet sand as well. I rode yesterday onshore 10 to 15 knots with a 10m.
been doing a fair amount of research and its seeming like the 2010 cabrinha wakeskate will be the one i go for.. going for the rubber surface also..
seems to be a bit bit better than most for upwind ability and has enough weight to not blow away when doing bigger tricks.
will find out in a few weeks when they arrive in perth!! ![]()
The nugget is too long and would be more like a mini mal to throw around..
