I received a call last night from a local kiter and have been asked to post the following information:
It appears that on Wednesday 23rd of January at some stage throughout the day a guy on a twin tip was kiting too close to a group of water users. The only information that I have is that one of the members of this group has complained to the Beach Manager.
The purpose of this post is to inform other local Wanda kiters that we need to try and stop people out on the water from doing the wrong thing and giving people the ammo to have kiting banned from Wanda Beach.
After some investigation it may have been a fellow staying at the backpackers...
He was definitely seen last week to kite thru two sets of flags, it would be great if someone saw his behaviour yesterday
He stands out because he rides a reo on a twintip and i saw him walking to the beach yesterday as i was leaving
I will go down to the backpackers soon to try and find him and have a short conversation
On a similar note,
I think all the guys setting up and kiting up near the wall south of summer salt resteruant on a southerly are playing with fire. It is to easy to drop a kite and get dragged through the flags. Most of the guys sailing there are going through the flags on there tack out maybe 100 m off shore.
Way cool brad told a guy from a shop off recently for this after he lost his board and dragged into the beach through the flags even though there was no one swimming.
We need to keep the lifeguards on side
Ps I think this is where the incident happened. Every one that I kited with yesterday north of Wanda surf club stayed well away from the flags
Yes i feel very protective of that spot and only kite there so i can kite right-handers up in front of the wall.
It makes my blood boil when i see people get close to the flags, very selfish
As such i often talk to the life guards to make sure all is well
Just remember guys who kite there that the no vessel or board zone goes out 560 meters from the shoreline and thirty meters either side of the flagged swimming area

Glad this has been bought up, there has been complaints made by the clubbies about people going to close and even through the flags at times. by all means have a friendly chat with someone if you see them doing it, its a spot we dont want to see ruined by someone who does not kite there often.
Could be that if he's a backpacker he has no idea of the rules concerning the flags (or indeed common sense).
Signs maybe?
Ok doesn't the beach manager make coffee??? oh opps - decent coffee I meant to say!! Wamberal surf club (NSW Central Coast) needs a good beach manager!!
Go Julia (PM- new election date and all ) - vote for beach managers ! - pump up kites and serve decent coffee!! - and beers after a session .
