Heaps of wind, heaps of cheap beer, heaps of time spent getting faded and heaps of karnts on the water... All this is the perfect combination for another washed up blockbuster... this time it's in Tarifa baby!
So prepare your eyes and ears for a medial feast unlike anything you have seen in at least the 2 and a half minutes... This one is going to be big!

Dancing provocatively along the fine line between gratuitous nihilism and lanky-artistic flamboyance, I think this is the best episode so far. 3.75 stars

hmmmm.

1. If you like sleeping you will like Tarifa.
2. Don't go kiting till abut 5pm, it's less crowded then and there's no point going earlier.
3. Shops aren't open from 2 till 5 or 6.
4. You can buy beer from the snack bars that are everywhere. It's just as cheap as the supermarket and it's cold.
5. You don't go to dinner till at least 10'clock. Most people go around 11, some even 12ish.
6. You don't go partying till about 3am, or otherwise it's empty.
7. If you like smoking Hash you can buy it everywhere, but it's probably best to get it off someone you know or trust as they like to rip off tourists.
8. There's a small sandwhich bar style thing in the old town in the bottom street almost next to the bakery/cake shop. It makes amazing sandwiches and it's pretty cheap. That cake store is also next level.
9. If you get a hire car, hire it from one of the places just outside the airport terminal, they are at least half the price of the ones inside.
10. If it's too windy in the Lavante direction of wind you can head to palmones and be riding sweet on an 11m. We strangely had Poinente (westerly) wind the whole time (which is the good wind).

Great advice!
What sort of price should I expect for wheels p/day?
Is it worth trying to get away from crowds for waves spots? or is the main beach on the west side a good option?

(just a possibility) did you fly into malaga? if so how did you get to Tarifa?

Mucho gracias amigo

surfy31- if you fly into malaga you can hire a cheap car from near the airport and drive to tarifa, it takes a couple of hours but you need a car when you're there. you can hire an old dunger car pretty cheap, don't get a flash car as it will get broken into at the beach.
the freeway tolls are expensive: but only if you stop to pay them- the emergency lane is your friend here.

you can get away from the crowds, especially when it blows levante- head to the bologna side of things for okay waves and less kooks.

if you are single you will have the time of your life. awesome parties and clubs happen every night.

it could be worth a ferry trip to tangiers if you do indeed like the hashish, but as rowdy says be careful of local traps. may be best to befriend an american or german mule for the trip over, the spanish cops regularly search tourists on the return journey...
