I'm sure this effects loads of us.
Was out today and the Wetsuit (peak) is constantly filling with cold water, up the legs.
So That's the problem, any solutions out there to stop it?
yep it does.
cheap way to solve is to wrap electricians tape a couple of times around each ankle (on top of wetty) pretty firm. works for me.
Tape works ok. It's a bugger if you have your wetsuit half off down around your ankles and you've forgotten to remove the tape. ![]()
Wear booties and tuck the legs of you wettie down the ankles of the booties. It will keep you warm as.
Get yourself some velcro strapping from the craft shop. I use old trainer kite wrist straps around my ankles or if you're really serious get your wetsuit down to the local wetsuit shop (Wing in Sydney) who will sew some straps on for you.
Maybe you have a mother who loves you and has a sewing maching
.
I never have trouble with water up the legs.
burn 3 little holes around your shins to make a spot for water to drain. If you singe it, there wont be any spreading. Prevents the water bulging which is the big problem to me. I've done it to a couple wetsuits now and i've tried the velcro straps and much prefer this way. give it a try on old wetty to see what i mean if you don't trust me.
Velcro works perfectly,10mm wide x 300mm, wrap it round a couple times.
If you know any sparkies they have rolls of the stuff, use it for comms cabling.![]()
Cut the legs off 3" below the knee and have it seamed by someone with a heavy duty sewing machine. I don't really notice that it is less warm, for winter in WA anyway.
Im with ApatheticEnd.
No need to cover your legs to the ankle its more trouble than its worth.
Long arms short legs and half a tea spoon of Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide.
Get one that fits good with glued, sewn and taped seams.
If you want to be super toastie surfing Nth of Perth, get one with a closure like pictured.
I cut a hole in each leg about 5mm diameter about 1 inch from the bottom. Been like that for a year, never had a problem since, holes havent got any bigger.
The water will always manage to shoot up there, you just need a hole so it can drain back out.
i wear booties, but my mate was always complaining about this cos he didnt (wear booties).
he now wears socks, up over the angle of the wetty. does just enough to deflect the water away from going up the leg. can really wreck a wetsuit in no time, this issue. blew out many legs pack in my poley days, although its not as bad on a wsboard.
he looks funny though, cos he chose white socks. in fact he looks like a tool. but... i absolutely admire the fact that he gave absolutely zero consideration to how he looked, even though there was probably a pair of black socks in the same drawer as the white one. thats about as far from poser as you could hope to be.
when im not wearing booties.. the weather is warmer... and iv got a shorty on.
I found I filled up due to the leg/ankle section being too tight - so XS water in suit could not drain - a decent faceplant and on-set of ELEPHANTITIS was a given.
Much less of a problem now - have arms on wettie!!
So holes or stretch a little - but do not tuck in to anything as needs to drain.

Style kings could wear tighter boardshorts over their wetsuit. this would eliminate cold rushes to the nads.![]()
get a npx zealot wetsuit, has velcro straps with purpose made drainage holes in the back calf. i`ve been useing this wetsuit for 2 years now and no kankles at all. seam sealed 3.3 <$300.
It's nearly summer. Then the problem stops anyway.
Also you could go back to the retrodays and just body drag.
Slightly off topic but wetty related.
When putting your wetty on put a plastic shopping bag on your foot first(like a sock). When you put your foot in it slides like you would'nt believe.Saves on the damage caused by getting it over your knee like heels.
Then remove the bag unless you kite at dog beach then youv'e got that coverered too![]()
