Pure speed wings have limited use in Australia. We don't have any proper mountains.

Larger speed wings and mini-paragliders can stay up on coastal cliffs and dunes. You can do all sorts of swoops and stuff. It's fun. You need to be a reasonably experienced paraglider pilot to do it safely.

Yes, but the irony is that would certainly not help your glide ratio at all...

I would be suspicious with that price. the jump suit I use is a basic one (glorified over alls) and it cost 600. plus to use a wing you need a c licence, min jumps is 200. Ive spent $3336 so far and ive only clocked 26 solos. not as cheap as you think

The secret is to hold onto the grass when you get the ground. Its the second bounce that kills you.

Ok Johnno, I've thought about this, esp. now that I am in the place where it all goes down.

I like life, I make mistakes, I have a wife and 2 kids. As much as I would like to learn this, like my mate, and know I would have a blast............not one mistake allowed here, I am not that confident, don't need the buzz really...........and can vicariously live it on the net.

Hope you are well mate.

You will start from paragliding and your course in WA will be in Albany;

http://www.waparagliding.com/learntofly.html

I would say you need at least 100 hours of active flying and advanced rating (easy to get) to start speed flying with a larger wing (depends on your body weight 16 to 18 m2) and as you feel more comfortable with your wing you'll reduce the size of your wing.

For speed riding on the snow, you need to be an advanced skier and know how to pack and run away before you get caught as it is not legal in most places (not that hard if it's not in the peak season)

Funny thing is the cost of the course, equipment & even a motor to enable you to fly everyday is less than half of the cost of a jet-ski

I used to do speed riding but as we don't have snow here in Perth I moved on to motorized flying;

Most of the pilots you see in this video are kite surfers too
